They put all of Allison’s items in the appropriately labeled bucket, each of which is strung by a rope to a beam. Each bucket begins to lower as weights are added. Iyanla asks Allison what she sees happening. Allison responds that there is an imbalance.
IN COFFESSIONAL: Allison says she’s having a hard time juggling the weights and trying to balance. There are so many things she doesn’t want to give up. She’s numb and she just wants to get it so badly.
Iyanla tells Allison she doesn’t have to get it right, but she has to come fully present to her life and she has to balance. Iyanla has another opportunity to balance today because the making of beds and the falling down of stairs is so out of balance. She approaches this time with three baskets labeled “self”, “world” and “others”. She places a basket in each of Allison’s hands and the “self” basket upon Allison’s head. She explains that the thing about balance is that you have to be very careful, then removes the “self” basket from atop Allison’s head and says that most importantly; this is the one you don’t want to drop.
She puts the basket back on Allison’s head and says that sometimes in order to take care of self; you have to put world and others down. Iyanla swipes the baskets from Allison’s hands. She leaves Allison with an assignment. The baskets are placed again one in each hand and one on her head. She must walk through the day this way; ask for help if she needs it, but the “self” never comes down…everywhere she goes.
