I think people have tendencies.. Could be about how we were raised.. I myself tend to be bit disorganized.. Nothing like Amy though..

I had to laugh last week. The show on before the Roloff's show was the family that had 16 kids.. They traveled across half the country and it was quite amazing how well behaved and organized they were.

Then there are the Roloff's...

Loveable, warts and all! The contrast between the families is amazing though..

I know on one recent show, Amy did admit she didn't do a very good job making the kids do things.. Now they are paying dearly for it!

You know I'm just realizing they never show Molly or Jacob's room.
Molly seems to pitch in more willingly than the others.. And they don't show Amy and Matt's room either.. I'm sure they probably have their own clutter issues in them too.

I think it was also mentioned by Amy once that her resistance to being more organized is a rebellion of sorts because the home in which she grew up in was obsessively organized..

Somewhere in the middle is a right approach I guess..

I know my mother is one extreme and my mother in law the other.. I've always felt like I was in the middle somewhere but I find the older I get, I'm procrastinating more... I get these dreadful feelings that "I'm becoming my mother!".... I like to blame menapause on everything! But truthfully it is my tendency to procrastinate... and then I wonder why my kids are the way they are! They are great kids... but much to my chagrine.. have picked up the best of their father and the worst of me!

I'm fortunate to have a husband who is much more organized and patient towards me and our children and understanding than I am.

Debby, your dad sounds like a gem.. My brother in law does alot around his house.. Moreso, because his wife has some arthritis issues and he likes to vacuum. The guy whips out the vacuum on vacations every afternoon! Love him... but being either extreme can be annoying.. It's good that they've found what works for them..

I think I saw something about Amy agreeing to do the show on the agreement that she will be honest about who and how she is...

She's been consistant.. LOL!

Me, I go into overdrive if I'm having company so that people don't see or won't know just how 'un' domestic I tend to be...

My mother was the youngest of 6... I think she was spoiled and then lost her father at an early age.. I don't think she knew how to teach us better when we were growing up...and so the tendencies continue...

What's the saying "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree"?

Good points! I think, too.........sooooo much of what we are is what we know!!

I've come sooooooooooo long in organizing.....I was always clean, but had clutter.........I think it was the old S.O. board I first read about Flylady and her tiny babystep approach......now THAT was something I could handle!!! LOL

I never, never have had a mess like the Rolloff's..........don't get me wrong......I won't judge them......we all have issues. But I AM glad they're at least tackling the boys' room........WHEW!!!

Watching Zach AND his folks and grandparents go thru the surgeries was really tough!!! Made me thankful that with all we've faced.......it's still much less than this family has had to overcome!

I think you're both right. Balance is the key, although I have gone through phases where I was in cleaning overload. I remember getting up early EVERY Saturday and cleaning everything in the house....floors, bathrooms, kitchen. I would LYsol and bleach like crazy. It was like therapy for me. Now days I don't do that anymore. LOL.

I would LOVE to get into that Roloff house without them in it so I could really clean it up. It would take me several days at least.

I remember one episode when Amy and Matt were out of town and Matt's parents were there his mother cleaned the kitchen and living room. It looked so nice when Amy returned and Matt commented on it. Amy looked put off and witched about grandma buying skim milk instead of regular. I don't think she appreciated the contribution.

I can't believe I did this. but I did. I changed the channel during the show last night. I was so sick of seeing those unappreciative brats blow off any task they are handed. I just couldn't take it anymore.

I changed back in time to see a little of the stars painted on Jacobs ceiling.

Did they get their act together finally?

Did you see those bedrooms!? In some places like on the Dr. Phil show, that kind of a situation is indicative of mental illness. I'm serious. I don't think the parents there are doing their kids any service by allowing them to live that way. Besides safety issues, you end up with roomates who hate you, girlfriends who detest to be in your space and spouses who suffer.

Did you see the show where Jacob admitted he changed his socks only every few days?

Okay, I'll now get off my soap box. Let me know what happened.

I almost changed the channel. I understand clutter (which I've learned how to deal with little by little)........but not disgusting, unhealthy living conditions............YUK!!!!

To me there's a huge difference in putting up with some teen laziness and not holding them to Drill Sargeant standards.........and honestly living in absolute filth!!!!

And maybe I'm too strict a mom...........but I MAKE my kids shower and change clothes daily!!!!!!

Yeah..........the boys finally did help and earn some money. I wouldn't have allowed any other kids into that bedroom!!! And Zach does use his leg as an excuse not to what he doesn't want to. He sure goes without wheelchair, etc. when he wants to. And Jacob telling the camera how they all hate cleaning and so disrespectful to mom. Yeah.........I don't choose to raise my kids like this......and I try to understand and not be judgemental because we certainly are far from perfect!!!!

But we have some "lines in the sand" that are not negotiable and just like you said Debby.........are for their own benefit as they turn into adults and for roommates/spouses/etc.

I do watch the show because I enjoy some of the educational factor of dwarfism and many of the outreach type things they do.
