Survivor! 1 Year, 8 Months ago

I don't know if anyone has heard this yet or not... but I am a bit surprised that Survivor (supposedly _base_d on my news radio station) is planning on dividing the teams by race. And I don't mean the 100 yard dash!
I am surprised that they would try to do that... I think it could promote more controversy than entertainment..
Maybe that is what they are striving for! Maybe they feel a minority will have a more equal chance of winning.
Maybe I'm missing the point! I'd just hate for any of the teams to be pitted against each other like that!
We know how hostile the environment can be normally... Maybe Survivor feels they have to up the ante to draw back a bigger share of the audience... Weren't they the first major reality show on network tv?

You may be right KPW. Survivor has been around awhile and it has kept up a large audience. I have watched some seasons and not others. I think I have just about seen all I need to of people surviving in the outback or on a deserted island.
I saw a little segment last night about the upcoming season. The teams are divided into 4 groups: African American, Asian, White and Hispanic. I hope I stated this correctly. I know some are very picky with the exact wording of ethnic groups, but I think I stated it the way the show described it.
They even showed the contestants, which I guess by now, they already know who the last 2 were, since the show is taped in advance, the only thing remaining is announcing the winner.
I find the idea in very poor taste and even offensive. It seems to me the show is trying to see which race is superior. Even though the tribes will eventually merge into one at the end, the break down of how many of this group or that group is left to merge, reminds me of something a supremacist would conjure up. I'm really surprised and hope that the public voices its concern.
I realize that I am not the judge of what is appropiate broadcasting nor the one to tell others what to watch, but, as a viewer, I think I should state my mind about what is out there when I find it offensive. Perhaps I should wait and watch the show before putting it down, but, I really don't think I could do that.

Ratings, ratings, ratings... it's all about ratings. Survivor has accomplished what they set out to do... cause controversey. I heard brief discussions on CNN and a few other network news shows plus ET.
I generally enjoy watching survivor... my husband and I are fans, but I agree this season seems to be done in very poor taste. I will watch and judge for myself, but I'm not too comfortable with the separation of teams by race.

I think this is going to be one of those things that gets talked about a whole lot and then turns out not to be much at all.
I don't think they will even keep the tribes seperated that long. I think this was a pubicity stunt to make sure everyone tunes in especially with all the reality tv craze out there.
Race is such a touchier issue, but there was alot of talk when they did the women vs. men also.

Tudin Girl... You could be right. I am sure the contestants had to agree up front to do this too... Maybe they think each team will work harder and create more cohesive teams and alliances. I have only seen bits and pieces of the show the last couple years. I actually only saw the bulk of survivor 2 in the Outback. And then some of the latter part of the season with Amber and Rob...
With so many reality shows.. they all start looking alike.. and I don't really even bother.. I'm probably not alone..in that thought. But just the thought that they are drumming up this story line is bothersome. It may wind up being nothing.. but a publicity gimmick! For me,, it's still not enough to get me to watch... I don't think... I'll never say 'never'... My daughter is a Survivor fan and more often than not that's how I get suckered into some shows and movies..
