All that "Yes,Chef" "No, Chef" "Thank You (for that earbashing), Chef" as well as the way he tears them down and builds them back up almost sounds like old fashion Military training. They are no longer allowed to call the trainees fat cows, big boy, magot etc (and profanity is frowned upon) but you do have to thank them for tearing you a new one and agree if they tell you your marching skills sucks.

Just like SO...we are not privy to the whole night. We may see most of the screaming but bits of his mellow side. I heard a couple of interviews last season from those that work with him in London that you don't get to see the whole Chef Ramsey. They said he just doesn't scream at you but if you really need to be shown how to do something, he'll show you... but you better have learned something and if you did a great job he doesn't hesitate to praise your work, if things aren't being screwed up... he's motivating but when he blows up... he really blows up.

Is it necessary to run the kitchen like a military?... possibly.. the stress level is up, working around dangerous equipment in a dangerous enviroment (cuts, burns, food poisoning) and chances on having a bad accident increases when the stress level is up and you have to move at a fast pace. One lazy person, one distracted person, or one apathetic person that works under that chef... can cause an accident AND can ruin that chef's reputation. Ramsey has been titled "The Best" in the world of cooking so each person he has trained, even those that no longer work for him will have eyes on them for years, they usually have an advantage on getting good jobs at good resturants. If they do well they look good and if they screw up... not only are thier own reputation on the line but also the teacher's reputation.

oh and they say that the customers that are on Hell's Kitchen are in fact invited and eat for free. They are also told that they may not get served that night when they sign the release form. I don't know if the ones that comes up to the hot plate are plants to incite Ramsey or just 'entitled' people. The Maitre de is suppose to be the go between for the kitchen and the diners. It's customary to ask the maitre de to send compliments/ complaints back to the chef and sometimes the chef will go to the table if he has time. I've heard that sometimes the chef will send for the diner. Also there is some differences between American protocol and European protocol.

Virginia made A LOT of stupid comments last night.

I'm sure it was a result of editing...but I couldn't believe how she treated her team...

But when Keith asked for something she should have told him she'd give him a kick in A** if they didn't win...they are all aspiring chefs on national television..that's reward enough!

And TOM...OMG what a jerk. WHY on earth did she pick him?

We were put off last night that he said "F*** You" to US...his audience....that really left a bad taste for him (pun intended!)

After all, I spend my evenings watching HIS show that promotes HIS ventures and then he tells me to F*** Off? That was uncalled for.

I meant in the military... it's frowned upon but not really stopped when it comes to yelling at trainees.

Yes I do see where his comment could be considered extreme to some people. I saw him chuckling after he said it ... it seems as if that comment was thrown in there as a joke... Brit and American have found each other's sense of humor vastly different... and both cultures have people that think the other's are out of line or too stiff/ sensitive or just too politically (in)correct for each other's tastes. I am sure if the network thought it was going to cause a drop in ratings they would not have put it in....

Personally I don't like such profanity as humor but then I choose not to listen to Richard Prior, old Eddie Murphy tapes.

I think Heather was the better choice between Virginia and her. I will admit though.. I liked Virginia's design the best. Dining should be a relaxing and enjoyable IMHO. Then again I love water falls.... and that kind of lighting.

I've heard that Keith works at an upscale restrurant in New York and that Gabe works with him.. Don't know the truth but you know how rumors work.

As far as last year's winner... here's a link to an interview with him
CHEF MICHAEL WRAY

That explains some of the customers antics.... they may have waited for thier dinner but the booze was flowing pretty good through there and sometimes the diners got a bit drunk.

This is from a Native American story "Remember the Things they Told us"....I would love to send it to Chef...

Think about good things when preparing meals. It is much more than physical nourishment. The way the cook (or cooks) think and feel become a part of the meal. Food that is prepared with careful thought, contentment, and good memories tastes so good and nurtures the mind and spirit, as well as the body. Once my mother chased me out of the kitchen because it is disheartening to think of eating something cooked by an angry person.
