Too many hunters and sports shooters (there are Olympic events) depend on guns. There are some area here in the US that still hunt for food. Not all the areas of the US have all the conviences and groceries and butchers etc etc nearby. Granted a huge % of the US lives as close to cities as possible but not all. There are areas around here that still live an hour or more from Wal-mart. But I do agree that tighter regulation on non-sporting or hunting guns is needed but not the golden answer.
Unfortunately in areas that have totally banned guns... other methods are used. When someone wants to destroy... they WILL find a way- not being able to find a gun won't hinder them at all. (Look at the Tylenol poisoning that went on many many years ago). Also serial killers usually don't use guns.
