Have any of you seen the Skywalk being constructed at the Grand Canyon? It's a structure that darts out over the side of the canyon so that when you walk on it, you will look down through the clear floor and see the canyon below!!!! It is higher than the Sears Tower, Statute of Liberty and the Empire state Building.

I saw it on the news this morning and then googled it. Sorry I forgot to save the link. It is just amazing! Not sure when it will be completed but this is definitely something I must go visit.

Just to look at it is unbelieveable. I don't understand how they were able to work on that structure as it extends out and over the edge of the side of the canyon. I hope they are doing a show that shows how it was possible.

When they did the story this morning they didn't even mention the issue of how the thing was built. That story is the most amusing one. The Today Show missed that story big time.

I saw something on it today. Not sure if it was on yahoo or the tv...
I think it had it's critics.. Not sure what the issues are...but you aren't getting me out on that thing! Are there guarantees that under a full load it would be safe? I get the willy's with heighths!

I don't think I'd even like the grand canyans just because of my phobia! LOL!

I found the link...I saw it highlighted at yahoo.

Apparently it will cost $25 to walk out on it! Maybe that is the root of the controversy. I didn't read it all though..

Thanks for the link, KPW. The news piece I saw indicated that the skywalk is supposed to be an attempt to increase income for the Native Americans in that area. For some reason they have no real means of income there as many groups do such as gambling. They are hoping the tourism will really help them. THe criticism I heard was from one Native American who is afraid that tourist will not come and the skywalk will be a big investment in nothing but an eye sore on the Canyon.

I don't know, but, I think it's worth a try if you can get the funds to build it. The Canyon is so large, I don't think it takes away from the natural beauty. I think it will be a great tourst draw.

I know many people don't like heights. Meredith on The Today Show said NO way would she walk out on. I think it will be great! I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon but, this skywalk, really makes me want to go. I'm going to wait until it is finished and tested very well first. LOL.

It's already built.. I think it opens on the 28th.. I saw a picture of it..and was different than I imagined after seeing the first piece on yahoo. I saw an aerial picture of it..and it looked like it was a horseshoe style platform that extended out.

Here is another link for the complex/site itself.
http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/update.html

I still wouldn't want to go out on it!

PS: from the drawings of the completed project, it looks like while the platform itself is done, some sort of visitor center or tourist building looks like it might be planned as well..

I saw it on the news! You won't see me walking on anything like that! I don't care if they say it is so safe......still won't do it!!

Just another one of those, "Are you kidding!" matters to me!
