I was asked the question why on all my profiles I put my occupation as a "hustler" :


HUSTLER; aggressively determined person: somebody who works aggressively and determinedly, especially to advance his or her career

I hold no bars to the person who asked me this question...Im actually GLAD she did...because it made me think further about some things in my life! And how I want to be looked at and determine certain things!

BUT...considering its 2006...and where I'm from, my choice of words (even though I majored in Journalism) can sometimes get me in somewhat of a bind! But I cant apologize for who I am! I am a hustler...in a positive way now! My biggest Idle: Oprah, is a hustler to me...she has many different things going on in her life...many different ways she makes money just like almost every other person in America who is trying to make it! Hustling is the new word for Entrepreneur! When I said that I'm really not angry at the person who asked me this, I am sincere....because it made me think in terms of why I ACTUALLY still think of myself as a hustler!

Im sure you all can agree with me when I say that young america has embraced the hip-hop culture and language...and sometimes you have to let them have there way.....okay so u cant change the way your child is talking...flip it on them and just try to use it in a positive way! Hard I know! Because not all negative things can be turned into a positive...but its a start! So I really dont think hustling is a bad term anymore! Not to my generation anyway! Hopefully someone feels me on this! If not thats fine...just thought I would comment anyway!

Even though I had deleted my original inquiry... You were sincere enough to answer... I appreciate that and also your take on the word 'hustle'...

But I admit, I'm of the older generation now...Old enough to be your mom! and can remember hustling having the negative cannotation!

I think we all look forward to your contributions toward what we may or may not see with regard to The Bad Girls Club.

You never did answer the question on another post regarding if you were implying Dr. Stan will have some part in the new show..

Thanks for coming back and clarifying... Hustling perhaps can still have a negative implication. Maybe you can call yourself determined...or a sales person. Being an Entrepreneur implies an honest work ethic.. Hustling brings to my mind illegal or unethical ways of taking advantage of people.

Well, let me just say that hustling STILL has a negative connotation today. And if someone is determined to call themselves by a _title_ that holds those implications, then they have to take the good with the bad in terms of how they are viewed!

There are consequences for every decision, action, reaction, statement, etc. Some will take what they see on this show at face value and make judgements.......as is their right. Others may try to delve and "psychoanalyze" the behaviors/words. Either way, it's a choice to go on t.v. in this (or any) venue!

But the words chosen then and now are really a window to the soul. So, time will tell.

KP.........I missed your original comments.......but the promos for this show and it's premise are meant to cache in on the drama! You are not alone in your viewpoint of the show......I'm sure the first couple of episodes will show the real purpose and direction.

I thought it was interesting that in the thesaurus to my word processing program, "hustler" is identified as "a shrewd person who knows how to circumvent difficulties." And of course "hustle" is something that coaches commonly say to their p_layer_s to tell them to get moving, be aggressive and work hard on the field. So the word has various meanings and implications, depending on the setting. In the context of this topic, I am interpreting the word in the positive way that originalbadgirl has said she intends it for herself.

I can appreciate the idea of borrowing language from the "kids" and seeing if it can be viewed in a positive way - not foul language or hateful words of course - but phrases that may have more levels than what they sound like at face value.

doxygirl....Thank you for not being closed minded about the various meanings of the word HUSTLE! Being where I'm from we tend to use words in ways that others may not understand i.e. slang...not all slang is bad...so I REALLY do appreciate your willingness to at least try and understand the other side of the fence rather than to just be plain ol' ignorant and stuck in the 1950's about how things should be said and done! I came to this site not hoping for complete perfection.but at least some sort of relief from the stressfulness of having my life taped the last 2 months....you know share some funny stories things like that....but some folks on here have nothing better to do then be negative and wanna talk about you and judge you rather then ask hey ...women to women...how are you doing...how was your day hey did u see when such and such did this or that funny thing! I NOW see what some married men feel like...always coming home to a nagging ass wife! LOL But I'm not going anywhere....if anyone still has any questions that are kool to ask i will answer them...lets get some real conversations going rather than bashing all the time k
For example...the time me and the girls went ice skating with these lil kids at the rink...or the time we went camping ect. ect. cause those were some funny a** stories to talk about .... the more serious things i cant tell...
