I am still reeling from the most recent news in my community. Last Friday afternoon a 29 year old pregnant mother was found dead, murdered by blunt force trauma, in her beautiful home located in a very upscale and crime free neighborhood.
Her 2 year old little girl was found beside her and unharmed. The husband was out of town on business. Everyone is just horrified of how this happened.
The story gets stranger. The murdered woman was employed as an accountant at one of our major electric companies, Progress Energy. Back in August, a 48 year old employee of Progress Energy, was abducted from the company's parking garage on her way to work and murdered! Her body was found weeks later in another county. They have arrested a man in connection with that abduction and he is being held in jail.
Both of these women work at the same office in the downtown area of our city. Isn't this just too coincidental? No one is speculalting yet, but, I'm sure they will check out the family first. I think the connection is just very odd. Anyway, it just reinforces in me to be very careful anywhere you go. The parking deck one of the ladies was abducted is only about 2 blocks from the one I use near the courthouse on a routine basis. They say security has been tightened but I haven't seen it.
I do not open my door for anyone unless I know who they are... Not even a neighbor unless I know them very well. If I must have a repairman come in I make arrangements for someone else to be there with me or be on the phone with me the entire time. I know this sounds like paranoia, but, I don't know how else to handle the crazy people in this world.

I agree with mazzy! Debby, you are just being aware and careful!!
There's a fine line between paranoia and safety. Paranoia really would make you stop your life! Safety is where we think out scenarios and try to live our life with precautions in place.
I'm teaching both of my children...one girl, one boy...that lesson right now. There's a balance between being safe and being independent. I don't want my kids so fearful they'll hardly leave home, but I don't want them having the attitude of "that will never happen to me" either.
It's such a hard fact to accept that bad things happen to wonderful people. That woman's family will be in my thoughts and prayers. You too, Debby.......keep yourself safe!!!

I agree about being safe there are crazy people who just sit and wait to hurt other people.

Thanks for your kind words. I am a bit relieved that the Sheriff is telling the community that he does not think this a random act of violence. To me this means the murderer knew her and killed her for some reason. I guess this is better than fearing a serial killer is on the loose. It is such a horrific thing though.
The co-worker of this young murder victim's autopsy report came back yesterday and they cannot determine an exact cause of death due to decomposition. They suspect strangulation. I hope they turn out to not be related.
I intend to keep my eyes open and stay alert in any public place. I guess that's all we can do.
