I read that the child she adopted did have a father who visited regularly. He had to agree to the adoption... There was some initial confusion about whether he really knew that it was permanent..
I found a yahoo piece that is less than an hour old. I was trying to find the article I saw yesterday about David's father getting married.. to his pregnant girlfriend.. The young age of the boy and the fact that he did have a surviving parent... (Most likely unable to care for the infant on his own..) (His wife died after or during childbirth last year)..
So many orphans have NOBODY.... with the father remarrying.. perhaps he and his new wife might have been able to bring him home.. Or as the boy got older the father would have been able to care for him..
I just have alot of mixed feelings.. That Madonna might not have chosen the neediest child.. but the cutest poster child..
Not begrudging the fact that the child will have some great advantages... but I can only imagine that her celebrity and wealth had alot to do with the adoption.. and the father giving up his son..
I mean he could be a wealthy man now... by Malawi's standards.. Not sure if he was paid or not... But I would imagine that a financial incentive would have been easy to tip the scales.. to get him to agree to give him up for adoption.
This article mentions the fact that Madonna may have been given special consideration because of her celebrity.
