Dr. Phil 10/20 1 Year, 11 Months ago Karma: 1
Today he had on 2 spectrum of financial problems.. One, a married couple whose husband is a tightwad.. Causing problems in the marriage.. The other, was a young woman who reminded me SOOOOOO much of old Antonia! This young women was $38 K in debt... She didn't think twice about it.. She hadn't worked in 6 months and was living with her mom and mooching money off her mom. She had a fifty some odd inch plasma screen tv in her bedroom... The show ended with Dr. Phil giving her mother advice not to enable her.. The daughter had 30 days to find a job and move out of her mother's home.. They had a moving van there to load up her belongings to put them in storage so that this young women knew she needed to get her act together and her mom was serious. He emphasized to her... that her success was not measured by what she looked like on the outside.. but how she conducted herself and managed her personal life.. (She was majorly superficial!) I'm not sure if she still didn't get it.. At least Antonia seemed to grasp the severity of her situation and seemed to be willing to work towards a better life..

I realize that this chick that came on.. only had an hour or so... But she was pretty open about her way of life.. and proud of it!
She did have a friend who attended with her who has been trying to get her to change her ways..

She needs Iyanla!

BTW, Dr. Phil offered to help this young lady by offering to help her sell off some of her fashion clothing to get out of debt..

Here's a link about today's show and the opportunity to buy some of this gal's stuff.

I'm starting to question Dr. Phil... this season he seems to be going more for the ratings... his behavior was refreshing when he first came on the scene... blunt, but sensitive. These days I'm questioning the type of guests and problems he is dealing with on national TV... at times it seems that he is having fun at his "patients" expense. I guess Dr. Stan and SO have spoiled me. I believe therapy is serious business, and "patients" should be treated with more dignity.

Mazzy I agree with you. I have seen a big change in Dr. Phil. Half the time I can't bear to watch the entire show. I go to his website and voice my opinion on his website www.drphil.com.

There was the day he had a lady who admitted she was a push over and that she would not stand up to anyone and just took crap from store employees, waiters, family, etc. Her daughter brought her there and she was not in denial at all. Instead of discussing the issue, Dr. Phil arranged to have a rude waiter imposter themself while she was dining to get her reaction...like candid camera.
I don't know what happened because I thought it was cruel and fast forwarded through it. If this were done to a person who is in denial, to prove what problem they have, it is one thing, but not to a nice and honest person. That was just plain mean. Why humilate someone for sport? NOt professional in my book. (As I write this I think of Lisa in her baby outfit. But she did volunteer, right?)

KPW, I did see most of the episode you describe above about the spending. That girl who wouldn't work but lived with her mother,....her condition started when she was a young child. People don't just grow up and suddenly become that way. They should have had the mother in the studio explaining that to her. Parents that give and give to their children without any restraint or condition and then get upset when the child is 25 and still expects it, are foolish. What do they expect? These kids are only that way because they were taught to be entitled. My parents have done this with my youngest brother and they can't understand why he can't manage his life. He is 34 years old but calls his parents when he has a flat tire, needs to see a doctor, his furnace breaks down, or his car needs repair work. He is married with 4 children. My mother takes responsiblity for many things with his kids as well. I know we should be able to depend on our family, but there should be a limit.

I thought she said at some point her mother was a single mom and she did without.. it wasn't until she (her daughter) became of age and started acquiring credit...that she went hog wild. I didn't get the impression that her mother created the monster.. although by virtue of having entitlement issues it must have started somewhere! I thought the girl just said, she didn't have it when she was younger and deserved it.

Her mother enabled her only by letting her come back home and giving her money. The girl waffled with that... didn't sound like it was all the time...

But she sure did make me think of good ole Antonia! I hope Antonia is doing well and getting her life in order! Too young to be so far in debt!

Some people are what they are... and not because of their parents or the way they were bought up.
