Just to remind everyone to pay attention to the news and media about new developments in breast cancer treatments and warnings..

This afternoon I saw a clip from my local news station that will be doing a piece called Inflammatory Breast Cancer.. (or IBC)... It's an aggressive form of cancer that doesn't have the normal breast cancer red flags/symptoms.

I intend to watch this... as I really am not familiar with it...

I also noticed that a drug company was found liable this week for a particular HRT that supposedly caused a woman's breast cancer. It's disputed if the women was adequately forewarned of risks associated with HRT...and perhaps that particular brand. That is where they'll probably decide on how much ($) they are liable for..

All this info is important especially to those of us in the throes of menapause or perimenapause.. and certainly it isn't uncommon anymore for a young women to come down with breast cancer..

Thanks for the info... I'll watch the news...

As you know I have interest in cancer... more so since my sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She was on HRT for ten years before the news reported that there may be a problem.

Mazzy,

I hope your sister is doing well with treatments. I know it's a particularly tough fight though with Ovarian Cancer. But there are alot of advancements in treatment options and success rates.

I had made that post on Thursday... I'm in the D.C. area and it was on local news and not national news. I did watch it last night and found out a bit more... It doesn't manifest itself the way typical breast cancer does.. There aren't typically lumps but possibly dimpling of the skin. I know they say to look for visual changes in your breast tissues as well as doing regular BSE. They say it's particularly aggressive type and accounts for about 5% of breast cancers.

If anyone wants to find out more, here is a link about this particular type of breast cancer.

KPW... thanks for the link... I read the info.

My sister is up to the 4th of 6 of her chemo treatments. I pray that she goes into remission following chemo, and I pray for a very long remission. I'm slowly introducing her and my brother-in-law to the idea that nutrition may play a role in recovery, but they both seem resistant. I'm passing info along with a take it or toss it attitude.

I'm very proud of my sister... she is fighting for her life. It's amazing what a human being adapts to.

I'm not really sure what to think about something I discovered 2 days ago. My mother called to let me know that her best friend, who is the mother of my childhood best friend and also like a mother to me, has breast cancer. She was supposed to have surgery today. I reminded my mother of the scare this lady had 2 years ago when her mamogram was unusual. Doctors had told her they were going to wait for a period of time and check again. My mother and I were appalled and demanded they do more test immediately. My mother told me she intended to call her friend's oldest daughter the next day to INSIST something else be done.
I never heard anything else about it, but, when I asked my mom how her friend was doing she would say fine.

Now she has breast cancer. I don't know what stage or anything.
After all of this, yesterday, the day before her surgery, she is driving her great granddaughter somewhere and is involved in a terrible car accident. She is pinned in the car for a good while. When they get her out they airlifted her to a major hosptial. She has very serious injuries including, broken ribs, fractured pelvis, fractured spine, and internal bleeding. My mother is devastated. They have called in the family and don't think she will make it.

Thank God the baby is okay and didn't get a scratch.
Please remember her and her family in prayer. I'm holding my breath everytime the phone rings today. I pray she will survive the injuries and the cancer.

Her friend is in her early 70's, but a young 70. She is very active and sharp and still works everyday and helps out her granddaughter who is a single mother trying to work and attend school. She is as close to being a saint as you can be IMO.
