Starting Over Talk

You know maybe the reason I have trouble getting into network dramas is because I am so used to shows such as Six Feet Under, Big Love, The Sopranos, etc. The writers on the HBO shows are better IMO. They also have more commercial free time and liberty of storyline. No standards department telling you what you can't do all the time.

Grey's Anatomy convinced me the networks could still make a quality show. I hope the others rise to that level even if they may not have the creative freedom of HBO and Showtime.

I wound up watching something on TLC that caught my attention.. I did flip over to B&S for a couple minutes and it was early in the show and Mom and daughter (Sally Field and Calista Flockhart) were in the kitchen..talking about their problems...and then mom asking her daughter to hug her because Tom Skerrit's character (dad, spouse) were watching. I thought that was a little strange.. Granted I probably needed to get into the storyline alot more!

So, Tom Skerrit's character got knocked off already? At the end of the scene I did see, it showed him fielding a call in his office and it seemed to imply something shady going on... My first thought was an affair.

I hope to watch it next time!

The first shows probably are always going to be harder to watch and follow. They have to lay the ground work for entire season / storyline..

I'm still trying to get into this show... I like the cast, but the story lines are not great.

I'm not sure if this show will make it. It sure is a slow starter.

I agree with you Mazzy. I posted my concerns about the writing in another thread on the board.

The show has great potential and great talent, but, the writing is terrible. I know that great cast must be miserable to have been dealt such horrible _script_s and poor character development. The producers of this show must have seen trouble with the storyline and characters from the begining and gotten some good talent in there. Why they continue with these writers is unbelieveable!! Why can't they do something??

I honestly think I could write a better _script_ than these people. It would be difficult to do much worse. It is only due to the talent of the great actors on the program that I can bear to watch it. I think I will try to post something on the show's or ABC's message board or e-mail to the production staff.

Debby, you go for it ; I couldn't agree more. I keep tuning in hoping they'll come up with something with all that talent and it continues to disappoint!

I am anxious to see how each character developes...but right now it appears that the "Family Dynamic" is being developed....I enjoy the show. It would be impossible to develope both the family dynamic and each character in only 3 weeks at 40 minutes a show.

I am happy to enjoy the ride!!
