TOPIC: Dr. Phil House????

Dr. Phil House???? 2 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm just wondering....since NBC hosts The Dr. Phil Show, and now he will be starting his own Dr. Phil House.....was this a way to get Starting Over off the air?????? Seems to me that Dr. Phil is taking Iyanlas idea for this. This is NOT fair!!!!!

Also....TV One still is NOT showing Reruns or anything. Does anyone know anything more on any of this???

Thanks,
Sheri

I don't think he stole anything from Iyanla.. Iyanla wasn't even part of SO1...but that was due to illness in the family. I always thought the show was a spinoff or U.S. recreation of Rhonda's show that she did in Britain.. But since I have never seen that show... I have to just go on what I gleaned from previous sources.

I actually like Dr. Phil... and don't think he had anything to do with SO's demise. The house concept has been around for quite awhile with all the other reality show programming. I'm not sure if the format will be that we see alot of interaction between people.. But maybe it will be something like taking someone out of their normal environment and typical problems and trying to get their focus changed or bad habits broken.

Anyone know whether this will be a regular piece on his existing show? Or a separate and new entity from Dr. Phil's regular show.

If it helps people, I'm all for giving it a try.

RE: tvone: based on their program guide (online) reruns of SO2 ended last week. Someone thought they were just breaking for a week but I didn't see anything listed through the latter part of Sept.
Your best bet is to contact tvone and let them know you want them to keep SO in their lineup. Maybe it had to do with B/M. They might have retained all rights to the shows and not actually sold them.

My guess is the Dr. Phil House will be part of his regular show... I saw some coming attractions, and I was not pleased. Unfortunately, I think Dr. Phil is listening to the "powers that be," and it looked like they were going for "the drama."

I'm starting to feel uncomfortable with the Dr. Phil show... it seems that dignity is a high price to pay for free therapy... I tuned in yesterday for a few minutes, and lost interest.

Therapy is serious business... I guess what feels uncomfortable is the choice of some of his guests... seems like they are there more for the drama than the help. I liked Dr. Phil when he was on the Oprah show, and when he first started his own show, but lately it feels like fake drama.

I'm also led to believe, from his TV ads, that the Dr Phil House will be part of his regular show, just like Season 2's Dr Phil Families. And, I think it's going to be just one family in the house. I'm looking forward to "checking out" the DPH. At least it'll be make Season 5 a little different from the last two. BTW, when SO began its first season, Dr Phil put his 13 Weight Loss Challenge participants together in the same house for a week or so. The SOH may have been Mary Ellis Bunim's brainchild, but Dr Phil didn't steal her idea. Putting reality show participants togther, in the same house, had been going on for several seasons before SO began.

Great post, Mazzy! That's the reason I stopped watching his show.

I first saw Dr. Phil on the Oprah show as many did. I was impressed on how he worked with people. Granted, some of his shows are helpful and remember this is TV and ratings are what keep the show going. So he has to have some "other shows" airing to keep him on.
If his shows are something that would pertain to me then I watch. If I think how stupid can these people be, ie: Fridays show when the woman has "cart rage" and the other woman wondering if her man who has a "triple life" can be trusted, I'll have it on to listen but not to watch.
I think the Dr. Phil house will be interesting. From what I have gotten from the commericals is that there will be oposites in the house--like a thin person and a large person.
Who knows it may work. Or as the good Dr. says, "How's it workin for ya!"
