Does it have to be either or?

For some of us, I would say it IS one or the other..

'Karma' was originally a philosophy associated with buddhism and hinduism...

For myself, If I acknowledged 'karma' then it takes away from my belief system in God/Christ.

So in that way, I agree with HSmom... She just answered your question.. I never answered because my belief system is in alignment with hers most likely... and I didn't want to start a debate.

I just think some may use the word karma as a catchall word implying that they hope someone gets theirs! Or a revenge of sorts..

So no, I don't believe in Karma per se... but God will sort it all out in the end...

I see it as more of an energy. That energy could come from God or a higher power. I never looked at it as taking away from people's believe in a higher power of God.

Post edited by: Tara, at: 2006/09/20 16:23

It says in the bible, "vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord". Could Karma be a sort of "divine retribution"?

I think Karma might be the natural, general consequence of sin, (or bad action) operating in a universe created by and ruled by a Divine Being which I call God.

I don't have a problem with the term karma. I have an idea of the common understanding of it I think. What I do wonder about is when do we get our karma? Why do some murderers stay free and live a carefree life and honest hard working people who treat others with love and compassion get terminal illnesses or live in poverty? I have heard of a book entitled "When Bad THings happen to Good People." I have never read it though.

I may just do a little research on the matter. I have heard that we as humans need a philosophy that soothes our minds and creates a mental attitude that allows society to live within certain bounds to ensure out very survival. If we do good, we get good, so to speak.
It is an interesting topic.
