Soooooooooo very true Ser!!! Actually I'm envisioning shoe prints all over his very head at the moment!!!!! ;)

Then I guess it's a good thing All That isn't mad at him, too!

That was the first time I ever saw cloggers work with taps on their shoes. Seems like it'd make you slip and slide a lot, doesn't it? I'd have thought nailheads like they use for flamenco shoes would work better. Anyway, I liked seeing the tradional Irish stuff and the new fusion stuff together. I took a class once that included clogging. It's not as easy as it looks!

I thought their act was more like Riverdance... than clogging. I'm sure the dance styles stream from one another and evolve..

I don't know what culture clogging became synonymous with... But Riverdance and the type of dancing Celtic Spring did I think is modern take on Irish cultural dancing.

I just looked it up ... "Riverdance is a theatrical show consisting of traditional Irish step dancing, notable for its rapid leg movements while body and arms are kept largely stationary."

Apparently clogging has more of a folk bent to it... and clogging was typically with wooden shoes. When looking up the differences between the 2... It looked like clogging might also have a square dance element.. Then again..it could be that one has borrowed from the other... Clogging apparently has been around for hundreds of years!

I think both of them look really hard! For everyone to be so totally in sync with one another... is just amazing!

I really enjoyed Celtic Spring too!

Just to tag on here...and keeping in mind that I did not see the show in question... I heard that clogging and square dancing in this country evolved from Irish step dancing and Scottish "reels."
Back in the old , old days, if you owned shoes at all, they were likely to be wooden "clogs!" In England they have what they call Morris dancing also. I think that all the folk dances probably started as a form of "self entertainment" get togethers...and you just happened to be wearing clogs!!

You can also hear the Scots/Irish influence in country music...the traditional kind...lots of fiddles and "plaintive" notes...songs about ordinary life...
Traditional dance in Scotland is referred to as "Scottish country dancing"...although soft leather "pumps" are used, instead of clogs.

"Riverdance" sort of updated step dancing...a lot of Spanish influence in there too, I thought, both in attitude and clothing, especially the mens'. In Ireland there is what they call the "black Irish" ...descendants of shipwrecked Spaniards, so the story goes...black referring to darker hair.

To my "ear", country music and dance here have all the above influences, as well as a little French thrown in for good measure...and it's very popular in Scotland and Ireland. They say that music is a universal language, and I personally believe that our "roots' play a big part in what "appeals" to us. I really do think it's genetic!!!!
