Ok, did anyone see it and what were their thoughts?
I thought Star exercised her spin control very well.... and deflected alot of tough questions. I do see some of her points... BUT I also see that maybe once the info was out that she had already talked to People magazine..and who knows who else..
I went to the store late last night...and lo and behold a People magazine was at the checkout with a lower right hand corner pict of Star and the headlines. "Why I was fired from the View"... I think that made the producers madder than anything else. If someone is going to be fired... they go immediately and with reason. If someone's contract is being renewed... that is alot different.. Star seems to just be putting her spin on it.
I noticed her demeanor was very calculated...
I hadn't realized she had been trying to manage the info about the gastric bypass... She wants to call it anything but... She sure was putting her spin on that too.. I seem to recall that one reason she had it was that she had met her husband..
Maybe Star knew that People magazine would be hitting the stands. And that is what prompted her not to wait 2 days more. She claimed because of all the rumors and leaks.. swirling about caused her to announce it earlier. She'd known for 2 months that her contract wasn't being renewed.. She could have asked to be released from the remainder of her contract and I'm sure they would have let her.. Rumors and speculation had been going for quite a bit longer too..
I think her trying to say the show was trying to encourage her to lie to the audience... was not right. If they were giving her an opportunity to line something else up.. and make her exit on her terms... then I thought that was great.. I highly doubt they would tell her she could/should lie.. She could put her spin on her leaving anyway she liked. In her mind, I guess she was being let go.. aka...fired.
I did think the modest speach on Tuesday was fine.. and I thought it could have been managed. But once the info about the People piece came out... I think as Larry King mentioned, the show didn't feel that they could trust what ever else she might say and do and she wasn't being honest by claiming firing.
How comfortable would her last 2 weeks on the show have been knowing that that People magazine is touting an authorized piece currently on the stands.
I think once Star rec'd her notice (of contract non renewal) she should have considered the fallout from claiming to have been fired.. As she said on the LK show.. it was a business decision. She should have treated it as such rather than trying to capitalize on it by creating the controversy now.
I notice the View this morning is a repeat.. Star is back! I am positive it's a repeat. I tuned in expecting something to have been said.. But maybe they wanted to let a day or weekend cooling time before responding to Star's claims on LK.
Star was right... she did it on her terms.. She left the show trying to tarnish it.. Might be her revenge to Rosie..

Hey KPW, I think it's super we disagree on this issue. We agree on sooooo many others.
I posted a lengthy post on the other thread on the View. I don't think I have the strength to do it here again. I thought Star did great on Larry King. She won me over. But, you know how it is, attorneys stick together. Ha! Ha! I can see where you thought she looked calculating. That's because she prepared. She can't help that. All lawyers prepare before they go out to make their case. Don't hold that against her.
I guess all of this hype will get worked out down the road. Star will do a project here and a project there, and maybe return to law.
Barbara will continue to be the leading female journalist on televsion for the rest of her life.
I think that Star has probably been keeping very good notes and tape recordings of everything ABC, The View's Producer, and Barbara have said to her or her agent for some time now. She's no fool. I think that's one reason they can't really dispute what she is saying as true. One discreptancy that intrigued me, although, I don't know if it really matters, is that ABC says that they told Star in November that her contract was in jeopardy. Star says no, that she heard a rumor of that in the media and ask Bill, the producer point blank and he said no way. I hope Star has that on tape or a notation of the date and time that conversaton occurred.
Another accusation that is curious is that ABC says Star sold the rights to her wedding phots to People Magazine. Star says that is not true. She says she has the rights to all those photos. This is a matter that can easily be confirmed. I believe Star on both counts.
Do you remember that girl they fired years ago? She was there before the Asian girl who Elisabeth replaced. There was a stink over that too. I think Barbara thought the girl was not too bright. I think she had a Greek last name. The girl now is on E News or something like that. I can't remember how they handled that situation. Breaking up is soooo hard to do. Don't you know Meredith is thanking her lucky stars she got out of there when she did. Just in the nick of time too.

Hi Debby...
I think Star is very intelligent.. But she is a diva... and uses it her advantage.. She also said last night she definitely used her celebrity when making those elaborate wedding plans. Every detail of those plans seemed to be extremely specific and tailored according to her wishes. I thought I did recall that even guests were not allowed to take pictures... (that is how controlling she was).. People Magazine did seem to have the inside line on that. Maybe she got free wedding photography for that right. I remember them discussing it on the show about guests not being allowed to take pictures.. (or at least I think it was on the show... it could have been a magazine piece.. I don't read tabloids.. so I know I didn't get it there.) Star readily said last night that she would have done some things different in hindsight now... The show shouldn't be bringing up wedding related issues at this late time though..
I just don't think we'll know all the stuff behind the issues. I certainly wouldn't rank The View in my top 10 favorite shows...so it's really no skin off my teeth. I'm not a huge Barbara fan though I've come to enjoy seeing her in a more light hearted way on The View.. rather than as a 'news anchor'...
In another week...this will all be old news... (if it isn't already..) I just think it's sad it had to go down this path.. If she was so upset about not having her contract renewed, and feeling as though she were fired... I wouldn't have blamed her for asking to be let out of the remainder of her contract. What was a couple of months..
I wish Star well... I do understand how she could have felt hurt being one of the original panel and all this come down to losing her job but she is a survivor and no doubt will find another forum for her talents. She is a very confident woman... That can come across as overconfidence sometimes..
I was on the fence somewhat until I saw the show.... and of course the People Magazine cover at the store. Then I could see the shows standpoint a little more.
I might see if the article at People is online.

Good idea. I will certainly check out the article. I'm not a People Magazine fan. I prefer US over People. I only buy it when there is something I must see, like when Taylor Hicks was on the cover. I didn't care about the article really, but, the photos inside were great! I'll buy this issue to satisfy my curiosity on the Star matter.
This matter may be dying down, but, sparks will fly when Rosie gets to town. Rosie doesn't like being controlled. I think she may find it difficult to keep her enthusiasm on some topics, to a minimum. I can't wait.
I do want the show to succeed. Since SO has gone, The View is one of the few shows I now tape and watch in order to wind down in the evening. Most of the talk shows are in repeats and bore me to tears.
I also tape and watch SO Season 2, but, no one else on the board seems to be getting those right now, so, I'm limited.
I remember much about the Season 3 episodes though. I do wish more people would post things about the days episodes for discussion, even though it's a repeat. I wasn't on the board during the airing of this part of Season 3, so I was never in on those discussions.
I think that some members aren' watching the repeats. I think Mystique said she felt too frustrated with Lisa. I can certainly understand that. But, still I miss much of the spirited day to day exchange of opinions.

Hey Debby!!!
I know this is off-topic but you mentioned Taylor Hicks and I know you were/are his #1 fan so I thought I'd mention.. did you see the new Ford commercial? He's the main event singing on it!
As far as the Star issue.. I didn't see her announcement or LK but have only kept up with it via posts so far.. It's tough without seeing it, but it's hard for me to ever stand behind a station because they do tend to do things without the concern of the talent that got them where they are.. I'm wondering, since they know Star as they do, could they have foreseen or planned this for ratings? Controversy is publicity and on that bottom line.. more are viewing to see what it's all about. I think, if it hurts anyone, it might hurt Star.. she may be seen as a "live wire' for live tv where they can't control what she says as it isn't 'taped' in advance. This may not be her choice of venue though, so it may not hurt her too much. I think The View is maybe counting on the influx of viewers to catch Rosie and let those that aren't tuning in get a new 'View' of the show?
Just throwing out possiblilities, like I said I totally missed it because I rarely catch 'The View'. Just sounds like typical 'theatrics" for ratings to me after I've read what all is going on! Star is getting interviews and attention and The View is getting free publicity to possibly pull in curious viewers that they may be able to snag into fans.

I watched Larry King and to me it all felt calculated and like a lot of spin control.... I agree kpw that the People coming out before the 'scheduled' announcement lit a fire under her and she needed to say something before it hit the stands... going back and trying to say now that she would handle the gimmegimmegimme wedding sounded too much like spin control to me.... I just doubt she would do it differently.... and her still continued refusal to call the gastric bypass by name.... what if we don't name it, then it's not real?...
I just still didn't like her diva attitude and the way she tried to spin everything to justify what she said... I think she has her own agenda and doesn't care who she steps on in achieving it or what bridges she is burning along her way....
