I really think ABC made a huge mistake by not asking Star Jones back. I didn't see yesterday's show and was suprised at the announcement this morning on The View.

I really think Star Jones was very entertaining to watch on The View too. They better get somebody in there quick. With Merideth and Star gone it's going to get really boring.

I'm not too execited about Rosie coming in the fall either.

I was surprised by the sudden departure too.

I don't think Elisabeth and Rosie will hit it off either... if last weeks skirmish with Sandra Bernhard is any indication. I just think they may be too politically opposite.

I liked Star on the set but I heard she was a bit too much of a diva... Maybe there was more to the sudden departure. (Marital issues getting a bit too public..) Maybe she wanted out!

I didn't see Friday's show where Star and Elisabeth both had words with the guest comedienne.. but found out about it on the web last night after trying to find out what I glimpsed about Star on yesterday's show via tvguide programming highlights last night. I guess they made an announcement of some kind yesterday, but I didn't know what..and nothing was listed on the View's main website. Today I tuned in a few minutes into the show only to see the 3 of them.

Probably the beginning of the end for The View... I can't believe they thought Rosie was going to round out the panel...!

I guess they knew they weren't renewing her contract... Star knew and had time to job hunt.. Anyway..here's the scoop... on how it really went down Tuesday and today.

Looks like it's hot off the press... Time I'm viewing it, it's only a little more than an hour off the press (AP)...

I read that Star was supposed to announce her leaving on Thursday and then she shocked everyone by doing it yesterday.... read that Barbara Walters felt very upset at Star doing it that way and with an interview she gave to some magazine about Rosie and the View....

I think it was cnn.com I read it at yesterday that Star knew she wouldn't be back well before Rosie was hired.... and that viewers weren't happy with Star after the very gimme gimme gimme wedding she had.... they said that ratings dropped during and after that....

Barbara Walters wanted Star to handle the announcement a certain way and she would have been able to say whatever she wanted.... I think Star decided she was gonna do whatever she wanted her way.... and unfortunately for her, it is Barbara's baby (show)....

personally, I have never been a big Star Jones fan.... she talks so much about the weight loss, but doesn't acknowledge having bypass surgery for the help.... she could have used her position as a platform for good...but instead, she tried to make the weight loss look too easy... and for those that know just how difficult it is, it just leaves a bad impression to me....

the quote from cnn.com today was: ""It is becoming uncomfortable for us to pretend that everything is the same at this table," show creator Walters. "Therefore, regrettably, Star will no longer be on this program."

ABC had decided against renewing Reynolds' contract months ago and the show was planning to let Reynolds announce it later this week, according to Walters. Reynolds could say whatever she wanted to about why she was leaving, "and we would back her up," the longtime ABC newswoman said.

Instead, Walters said she felt blindsided when Reynolds broke the news Tuesday, then was quoted in People magazine as saying she felt like she was fired.

"We gave her time to look for another job and hoped that she would announce it on this program and leave with dignity," Walters said. "But Star made another choice."



personally, Barbara Walters is so respected and highly revered, and there is so little negative out about her and her years and years of journalism, that I tend to believe her over Star.....

I also would tend to side with Barbara over this. I think it was Star's way of getting revenge..

Wouldn't it have been interesting to be a fly on the wall after yesterday's show...? (After Star exerted her independence over what was supposed to happen?) I bet Barbara really let her have it and the decision was made then to let her go 'early'!

This ain't gonna bode well for Star's career...

Instead of leaving with dignity.... she's dug an even bigger hole for herself!
