All of the Forum Topics now say "New," even though there are no new posts on most of them and even after I have tried to mark them as all "read" twice. Thanks.

If you are talking about the button...it's always been there. Usually a reply button is too...

The 'new' button is if you want to start a new thread. Or so I've always thought. I haven't noticed too much 'new' lately but will double check to see if the reply buttons still are there....

I thought the PM system was still down but exchanged a couple with a poster a couple days ago much to my surprise! I thought it was down and Tara had disabled or something to make the site run better... but now know that it IS up.

I have the same problem just every so often. Ordinarily when the "new" sign is really up because I haven't read a post yet, it's red.

But when my connection (or whatever the issue) is the problem then every single thread and subject says new in dark gray or black.

I just close down my internet connection and then open it up again and that seemed to help!

i have the same 'new' by everything no matter how many times i read, check off, reboot or anything.... has been that way for about a week.... makes it tougher to know what i've read already and what i haven't.... thank goodness the post list thingy is back up now and i can use it to see what is new that i haven't looked at yet....

Oh, that's what you were talking about.... Occasionally when my page pops up they'll all indicate new...and then it'll blink and reload.. I thought it had to do with my cookies and it being able to pick up where it left off from last time. Just taking a sec or so to do it.

I have 2 computers in the house... I can go log on the other one and it will show all new buttons for all the topics since I logged in last on THAT computer. So I definitely think it ties into the cookies in your system that help keep track of where you were last in the SO site.

Not positive.. but that was how I was understanding these things to work. I know when my husband erases all the cookies or is tinkering with the system, I usually have to key all my passwords and stuff back in and then it tracks my viewing habits better. I assume it reenables the cookies for this particular site.

Well I was having everything showing a black static NEW on everything and then tara posted a link to the 24 hour new page and going to that one fixed it.. try this link and see how it works for you.. if it doesn't ck tara's post on the 24 hour thingie
