I have been a Curves member for three years - averaging 4 times a week. My opinion is that it is a good place for building muscle and strength. It's excellent for avoiding osteoperosis by doing the stress excercises. It is not enough aerobics to actually lose weight though. You still have to add 20 minutes of aerobics three times a week for that. What it is is a great place for is woman community!! Yeah for that. I have made great friends and gotten to know some dynamite women. Give it a try.

I go to Curves and love it too.

Its a fab place to go and exercise and learn to eat right as we are always given new tips, the other women are great and we get to solve the worlds problems an exercise at a time! lol!

I need the encouragement I get there and the exercises do firm me up and the time goes so fast.

Each machine at Curves works opposing sets of muscles. It's great for anyone who is a novice to strength training. But, once a certain fitness level is obtained, since the machines' resistance can't be increased, the workouts become less challenging. Then, it's time to find a gym that's got machines with adjustable resistance. And, some of these gyms are for women only. But, the strength training workouts, at Curves or the gym, only build muscle. To really burn calories, you'll need to do some cardio workouts, too.

Hi,Turtle:
Interesting! Thanks for that info. It's true that after 3 years I now find it's more difficult to get my heart rate up. What do you think about spending more time on the machines at Curves - more than the suggested 20 minutes? I worry about injury. Also, what suggestions do you have in looking for another gym?
