I totally DID NOT have that figured out. Throughout the book I kept on asking myself...what is wrong with the lawyer and why the dog...Never guessed it

I watch a lot of animal planet. They have shows about those kinds of dogs all the time. It just clicked with the way the dog was acting and then the lawyer would hide.

Campbell's smarty remarks about the dog to people really annoyed me. Every time someone would tell him dogs were not allowed - rather than say, this is a service alert dog he would make a rude comment. He lost opportunities to enlighten other people to the services that canine companion dogs offer. It could not possibly be that he did not want anyone to know he had a 'condition' - having the service dog pretty much tells the world that. Why not make use of the situation to educate others? I thought sometimes that he liked being the center of attention, having the upper hand, etc. (Of course, he is a trial, they love confrontation to begin with!)

It didn't mention it in the book, but don't service dogs wear a "coat" of some kind? If Judge was wearing a coat then people wouldn't have to tell Campbell that his dog was not allowed in.
As for his remarks about why he had a service dog to begin with, I think it was a defense mechanizm. That way he would not have to face up to his disability.

One quick question. I don't want to say what is wrong with Campbell until everyone has read the book, but don't people with his problem have their driver's license taken away? just in case?

It is my understand that this situation would warrant Campbell having to surrender his driver's license.

But, who knows? Do you think that old Campbell would even tell anyone about it?

That Campbell was a piece of work.
