I think the dad just felt out of his element.
In his line of work, he sees fast results. Crash.. he's there to help. Bang they are at the hospital and then the docs take over. Maybe he doesn't get to see the daily in and out that long term care takes.
Maybe his wife just took over the care and welfare of Kate and he felt left out. ( just like Jesse)
He seemed to be using his job and the astrology hobby as an escape mechanism.

Okay, I have another question -

Who is the keeper and who is the sister?

Good question. I thnk that when you first start the book, that it is implied that Anna is the Keeper and Kate is the sister. However, because of the ending, I think it turns out to be the other way around.

Hi Parker,

You know what? I have been thinking about this question before I wrote because I was really not sure. But, then I realized that I think that Kate is the 'keeper' and Anna is the 'sister'.

I kept thinking about that word 'keeper' and finally realized that when I hear that word it makes me think of someone who has control over another person or thing - gate keeper, zoo keeper, house keeper .

Although Kate NEEDED Anna for her health, Kate's situation put Anna into a position where her life was really not her own to live.

You know Luna... now that I think about it.. you are right. That's why I like this forum. It gives me new views on the subject that I had not thought of before.
Thanks
