Hi Grizz and Parker - here is out new thread for this book.
Let me know when you are ready to discuss it.
It is a very easy read. I liked the format of the story. Each chapter as a point of view of one of the characters.
How do you want to discuss it? Chapter by chapter or do you want to chat about the different issues that are involved in the storyline.

I read this book months ago....and while I was at work I was finishing it up and actually gasped and cried at the shocking turn of events. My co-worker heard me and came over to see what was wrong. She read the book right after me, with the same emotions. Jodi Picoult is a great writer and I am going to start reading more of her.

This book was wonderful. The emotions of everyone involved are so real. The twist at the end was unexpected.
I will confess though that I had the lawyer and the dog figured out at the beginning.
I don't want to go into to much detail, because of those who have not read it yet.

Hi!
I read an article about the book inwhich the character of the mother was found to be very one dimensional and underdeveloped.
I did not find this to be true. I think that maybe the idea is that on the day the daughter Kate is diagnosed with APL, the mom focuses her entire being on fixing her child - by any means necessary. And, to hell with everyone and everything else.
I will be honest. While there is a part of me who can understand that when a child is ill and a doctor says you have to do this and this and that - you say okay because you just want your child to be okay. But, as a parent of more than one child, you must also be responsible for the well being of the healthy child. They deserve to have as normal a life as possible.
When I read some of the comments she made to Jesse and Anna during the course of their lives I cringed. I thought she was cruel. It was almost like she was angry at them because they were healthy and Kate wasn't.

I, too, found the mother not likeable at all. I know she was fixated on Kate. However, Jesse needed hi mother too. Anna, it seems, was just left by the wayside until something was needed from her.
