Hi Misstisam -

I think that the Wizard is Elphaba's biological father. Remember the reaction when he saw the green bottle of Elixer??

Glad that you joined our discussion about this. Grizz and I are enjoying it.

Have you started Son of a Witch yet?

I have not started Son yet. I hope to get to that probably Sunday eve since I will be busy most of the weekend. Can't wait to start reading it.

Good observation about the Wizard being Elphaba's father. I wonder if anything like that will come out in Son. Hope so.

One thing that really bugged me about the book was that there were many loose ends that were never really explained. I guess some of them, like what happened to Sarfima family are almost understandable - much like the people who are 'disappeared' in countries that are under dictatoship rules. But, I would surely like to know what happened to them and to Nor. (Although, I understnad that Nor is a subject of the sequal - Son of a Witch).

The one loose end that I would like to have explained is the 'why' of Elphaba's green-ness, and as her dying father, Frex, wondered "What was with those teeth?".

Oh! Another question I have - since Dorothy could not take off the rubby slippers - then, I am wondering was Nessa able to remove them? Or if she was a prisoner of the shoes - did they make her act so dispicable? Was she under a spell of Glinda's making?

I am toward the end of Wicked "The Murder and its Aftermath" and when the Wizard is meeting with Elphaba, he has Nor to negotiate with the witch for her release (he wants the shoes and the book - the Grimmerie) and he admitted that he had Irji killed and that Sarima and her sisters were killed "perhaps by some underling who has an appetite for a bloodbath." So that is what happened to the family.

Yep............I'm frustrated by the loose ends all the while knowing that a good author leaves his/her books that way to allow for future stories!!!! But, I don't know that I really want to spend the time on any sequels.

misstisam..........maybe you can let us know if you think the sequel is enjoyable enough?????

Yes, I got that both Elphie and the Wizard knew in the end that he was her father. And that TurtleHeart was Nessie's father. Ironic then, that Shell (named after him) is actually Frex's!! I'm suspecting he makes an appearance in the sequel also. After all, he'd be the uncle!!

Still wondering about Elphie's actual demise...the stage was definitely set with that ending for her to re-appear also. And I also got that it was just assumed Sarima and all her sisters were killed. Probably a good assumption.....but just not an absolute!!

Same with the Elephant goddess and others waiting for Elphie!!!!

Luna.........I'm with you...........I read Animal with much more emphasis than animal in the story and now that is stuck in my head!!!!!!

I do think one of the key points in the story is that evil and good can be blurred. One can be evil but DO good things (for who knows what reason!) and one can be good but do evil things (in the name of a worthy cause).

Great discussion!!!! I look forward to our next one!!

You are right Grizz. I think that the lines between good and evil are often blurred. I thought that this book's storyline portrayed that very well.

The Wizard was repulsive. A horrible, nasty man. Morrible - horrible. Glinda - well, her bad points were wrapped up in pretty blonde curls and frilly sparkly dresses - but they were still there.

Ever wonder where these writers' get some of their ideas?
