Iyanla is truly different in some of her methods of coaching, but I would LOVE to have her as a life long coach! We might not agree at times, and I would probably end up wanting to shut her out on occassion. I think Iyanla gives 100%, and is a woman with intergrity! She is passionate about her work healing woman! I would also feel the same about Rhonda also. I think people in this line of work are very compassinate about helping others. I know when they get to the assignments where they want you to dress up in costume like Lisa dressing like a baby well FORGET that!

Iyanla can do no wrong in my book. It took me several episodes before I got in her boat but I totally get her now. I missed the first half of the show today, but she seemed to be completely missing and they had Dr. Stan on more than he's ever been. They also showed the coming up at the end and Iyanla was completely missing.
Hope that was just a fluke and not something else.

That's really nice that you put so much faith in someone. I don't know that I can say that about anyone. To err is human as they say.. no one is perfect we all make mistakes. I like her a lot but I've questioned a few of her actions sometimes, I think that is a healthy thing. Just like totally trusting a medical physician.. there have been mistakes made and mis-diagnosis, you should have faith in your doctor but can he make mistakes? That's what second opinions are for. This may come off as sounding overly critical but I sort of see questioning as leading to a better understanding.. *shrugs* Doesn't mean that just because I may question one of her excercises that I know the full ins and outs of HER ideas and why she chose to do so.. all I can go on is what is shown which we know is subject to editing. If I could ask her the questions I would and my opinion about it may change but I can't so I go on what I see. Having said that, I like her as a person and most of her methods seem to be well received and do the job.

Iyanla's hugs are the bestest

I like Iyanla. But sometimes the arts and crafts get to me. Can all of life's problems really be solved by painting or gluing something? If so, I guess maybe all we need to know was really found in Kindergarten.

Watching Iyanla and Rhonda in action makes me reflect on the huge difference between counselling and coaching. For counsellors like myself, our job is to support our clients in arriving at their own solutions without imposing "advice", whereas coaches are much more directive, instructing their clients about what they "should" do to improve their lives. I don't think that counselling is better than coaching or vice versa, but I'm not sure if all of the women in SO are best suited to the authoritative style of coaching. I'd like to see the SO women receive both counselling AND coaching in equal doses, which is why I think the show could benefit from a 2nd counsellor/ psychologist to supplement Dr. Stan's work.

I've seen a lot of comments about Iyanla's "yell it to the universe" technique and it gets a lot of flack because on the surface it seems a bit ridiculous to a lot of people. It doesn't to me for a few reasons but I will voice just one perspective here just so a different point of view can be looked at. It goes along with the term I'm sure many of you have heard.. positive thinking brings you positive things and negative thinking usually brings you the negative. Saying out loud what you want is making a clear statement.. to yourself and to 'the universe'. Say it.. believe it.. make it so.

Have you ever had thoughts that just drove you crazy then you voice those thoughts and when you hear them come out you see how silly they sound? Same kind of effect. Don't just think it.. speak your mind.. hear your voice and in that voice your conviction. There's a freeing in getting things OUT. Just like there is when you have an outburst and afterward go whew and feel 10x lighter.. you let it out. It may have been in your room with no one around .. well hopefully.. lol but you get my drift lol But letting out the emotions help you feel lighter than when you suck it in and carry it all inside you.. they begin to weigh you down.

So if yelling it to the universe helps them to think, speak, and hear their own convictions.. it can be a very powerful statement.. for themselves. And possibly a very freeing one.

Like I said.. just another way to look at it
