Ok...who knows what about fibroids of the uterus and cist of the ovaries? I've just discovered I have these and am headed to the specialist tomorrow. Can any of you prepare me for this? What do I want to ask?

Netty, gosh I wish I could help you on this one. I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 26 for a fibroid tumor. The doctor said it was rare for a fibroid tumor to be malignant, that most women get these and never know it, but I had a lot of pain with mine. Cysts are what you get on your ovaries, I think medicine has come such a long way now, they can drain them or dissolve them with meds, I don't think either are really serious, if caught in time. Good luck at the doc's and be sure to let us know what's going on! You are in my prayers cause I know this is a scary thing to go through. You hang tough, girlfriend!! It'll be ok!

Well, for someone who "wishes" they could help, you did alot! LOL
Knowing these things have helped me to understand that perhaps my monthly issues are connected. I'm done having children, so a hysterectomy for that reason would not concern me, but what about other issues?
Anything on those issues?
I am relaxed that none of these things are likely malignant as neither my ovaries or uterus are enlarged, but they are painful and as I understand often return. I guess I'm trying to decide whether I'd be open to a hysterectomy if that is an offered option.

First time doing this hope it works.
It was found that i had a cyst on my right ovary when i was
forty. I first went to doctor at 35 with period problems ie:had them all the time. My doctor told me that most cysts were benign but the only way to know for sure was to get the ovary out. I had two choices of operations, one they would cut me open the other way would be by laser thru the belly button (in and out the same day). Unfortunatley because of exsiting scar tissue from a previous surgery they had to cut me open (out 5 days later). They took my ovary, uterus, and cervix. they left one ovary so I wouldnt go thru menopause and it looked good and healthy. Unfortunetly I developed a cyst on that ovary and had to get it out 2 years later. Both cysts were benign. There was no history of ovarian cancer in my family. I now have spent the last 3 years on estrogen the weekest dose. I too was done having children. My only advice to you is if they decide to do a hysterectomy, seriously think about getting eveverything out (2 operations in 2 years was the pits). I
have been married for 27 years and my husband and I are
currently sharing some renewed pasion for sex. No periods, no birth control just free willy!
Go at it positively, check the internet for all kinds of info,
ask lots of questions.
good luck

What kind of ovarian cysts are they. I am 25 and have recurring ovarian cysts since I was 15. What kind of questions or concerns do you have?

What other issues are you worried about netty?
I can't really offer much more than the others. I had a patient who had surgery to remove her fibroids. She had 6 of them, some quite large, removed. I know, as has been said, that they are not cancerous. They also won't re-form, but you may be susceptible to forming new ones. And, from the lips of my patient, the recovery from surgery was nowhere near as bad as she thought.
Can't offer any more, sorry!
