"We become so good at taking a punch that we take a punch just because we can" - Iyanla.

I think that's how it went. I stand corrected if anyone has it differently. This just showed me me. How I am hardened to think I'm strong when really it is that I let myself take a punch even when I should preserve myself and refuse to take a punch. Taking a punch is not being strong, refusing to take a punch is. OUCH!

Wow! I didn't get the impact of that since I missed it (and I'm a visual person, so I also missed it when reading the recap!). Powerful! I have to agree with you Jackee, I've been proud of myself for being able to take anything and it's become my motto! Thanks for the different perspective on this!

I don't remember the exact verbage, but, Iyanla was laying the smack down to Ally re: cleaning up other people's messes. (The exercise involved her cleaning up that disgusting table outside...Iyanla made her do it again...)

"When you quit trying to clean up other people's crap, they usually find a way to do it themselves and it goes away on its own" (SOMETHING LIKE THAT, but not exactly)

I tend to be a 'rescuer' sometimes, like Ally, and that one hit me like a ton of bricks. It was well-deserved by Ally and by me.

I love Iyanla's "in your face" attitude. The confrontation with Ally brought me to a sob. I put myself in Ally's shoes and pondered which response was MORE correct. True, Ally NEEDED to push back/stick up for herself. But again, in Ally's shoes, I'd be afraid of the risk of striking a Life Coach getting me kicked off...or just over-reacting and hurting the lady. What a TOUGH conundrum.

Iyanla is often gracious, but is very blunt. I love the woman for that.

Thanks for sharing! I think there are a lot of us who could relate to that particular one when we were raised that that was our job to do!!! Good reminder!

Absolutely! Spoke volumes to me. Wish I wasn't confused about the desired outcome of the exercise. Like Allison, I thought the lesson was in cleaning the fridge.
