Holy Spirit 4 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 12
I have been using the King James Bible in my study. We are searching for a bible-believing church, so I don't have a pastor to ask questions. There are references to Holy Ghost in many cases. I have heard spirit used for ghost many times in teachings. Are they interchangable? Why is "ghost" not used, if that is the KJV reference? My concordance says that the American Revision renders ghost to spirit, but it doesn't give an explanation why.
I'm sure I could find out if I did some digging, but does someone just know the answer, off the top of their head?
Thanks for your time!
Christ's blessing

No, I don't have the answer you are looking for but...when I was growing up attending a parochial school, we used the term "Holy Ghost". In all the Creeds, The Lord's Prayer even. I don't know when but somewhere along the line we started using "Holy Spirit." In my belief, they are one in the same.

The religion I am is Lutheran. I am able to talk to our Pastor whenever he's not busy. We have a large church & he does so much for the church but has always made time for appointments with me, to discuss anything. For a time there it was my Bipolar status & explaining to him about it. Asking ?? having to do with God in my life, with my physical ailments, and the status at the time of my life with my boyfriend of 10 yrs. Pastor has always been so very kind to me, he's a Friend to me! When I'm able I will ask him when the Lutheran Church, in particular, changed the 'wording.' OK?

Post edited by: halfdollar, at: 2004/07/25 23:45

Hey girls !
My opinion,or 2 cents, is that wording changes with the times.People of this century probably use Spirit more than Ghost.God has MANY names. But He is One in the same.

In my opinion
I have used several different versions of the bible. It really depends which one you are comfortable with. I know in my serenditpy bibke it refers to god, angles and holy spirit as on in the same. It all comes down to personal preference.
