Starting Over Talk - Peer Coaching Support Site

I taped over Wednesday's episode, so most of this is from memory. If there are any gaping holes in the recap, my apologies.

Wednesday October 5, 2005

Troy is up at board of review. He is supposed to do the Tarzan yell and he asks for support from his housemates. They all stand up and do the Tarzan yell with him. Troy says that he feels like he is opening up more and finding his voice. Everyone sais that Troy should come back to the house. He is asked what grade he would give himself. He says a B and then Lou interjects that the vowel "A" carries well. So Troy raised his voice and said he should get an A. I think Iyanla gives him a B+.

Jennifer is called to the podium. She says that she has learned that she hasn't grown up. She says that her issues with Lou have nothing to do with him and everything to do with her. Jennifer said that she felt free after her painting assignment. Everyone says that Jennifer seems happier and she is more open and they all say that she should come back. Rhonda gives her an A-.

Kacie is called up last. Iyanla tells Kacie that she hasn't told her story so her healing hasn't really started. She tells Kacie that she won't give her a grade because she hasn't earned anything yet. Iyanla tells Kacie that she will make her own grade in her healing. Everyone says that Kacie should come back to the house.

Iyanla meets with Kacie one on one about her story. Iyanla tells Kacie that it will heal herself and others by teling it. Iyanla gives some statistics about women and abuse and tells Kacie that a lesser woman wouldn't have survived. Meanwhile, Simon is walking around the pool while Iyanla is talking to Kacie. Iyanla leaves Kacie to write in her journal and says that Simon is going to have to let Kacie handle this on her own. Kacie is in the confessional and she tells her story. She tells how she was shuffled through foster homes, starved, molested, beaten. She had her hair chopped off or was hidden to stop anyone from adopting her. She was made to perform sexual favors for food or treats. She also said that she was unable to read or write until she was 15. She tells the other housemates that she feels like a weight has been lifted since she has told her story and shows them her grade card which she marked with an "A". Everyone congratulated her for her progress.

In group they discuss the tools they have learned and asked them how they were going to keep using them when they get home. The coaches remind them that their bracelets can be a constant reminder for them.

Rhonda meets with the women and talks to them about continuing their process once they leave. She compares it to protecting a seedling until it's roots are strong. She tells them that she has made a life long committment to them by being their coach and that anytime they need support they can call her.

Iyanla meets with the men and the men are talking about staying in touch by email, phone, and letters. Michael says that he will probably call twice a month. Iyanla talks to the men about the changes she has seen in them and asked them when they thought the turning point was. Lou said it was the second day of the car. Michael said when he took off the handcuffs. Simon said when Iyanla called him out in the conversation with Kacie about their daughter. Iyanla tells Troy that when he got there he seemed overwhelmed with sadness and she doesn't see that now. Troy says he does feel happier. Iyanla tells the men it was a pleasure to work with them. She said it was nice to coach men for a change because women are nothing but trouble. It was Eve that got us thrown out of the garden.

As each couple leaves the house they are given a plant to nuture and care for. It is symbolic of their relationship. Jaclyn and Michael are each given their own plant since they are working separately on themselves. They are asked to bring the plant with them when they come back to the house for their "check ups".

After the couples leave, the LCs and Dr Stan walk through the house saying how much they enjoyed the couples and having the men in the house. They agreed it was different energy. They said that a whole new group was going to come in ad start the healing process in a place that has already been lived and loved in.
