The day we have been waiting for!
We see Allison at the end of season 2, at graduation. Now to a road scene, and to Allison’s home, with Patrick and Bethany by her side. She is talking about the surgery, and she is afraid of not waking up. Now we see Rhonda and Iyanla, introducing the idea of couples.
Dallas Texas, with Jennifer and Lou, and a cutie two year old! We see them in their house, talking about the challenges of being new parents.
LA, California, with Simon and Kacie. He is Indian, and wants the traditional wife, from his culture. She is more independent. She doesn’t like how she is changing because of him.
Denver, CO, with Cheryl and Troy. They have a pre-teen son. She feels she lost touch with husband over the child.
Phoenix, AR, with Jaclyn and Michael. She has trust issues, and he has done things for her not to trust him, it sounds like.
They are all making there way to the house, and talking about the general crisis they are in.
Jennifer and Lou are in the house, liking that they have separate beds. Simon and Kacie arrive. The house is in LA, but a new, fancy house!! Jennifer moves a candle, sees dust, and says uh oh! I can keep this house Jennifer clean, she says.
Troy and Cheryl are in the house. They are an older couple, and are off to see the house. Cheryl says she homeschools her 12 year old. Jaclyn and Michael arrive. They are all outside, and Rhonda and Iyanla call them back into the house. The coaches are ready for boot camp!
The coaches said a rule is to complete all of the exercises assigned. They are ready for action! Any time they do a group exercise, they have outfits to wear, so they look alike, and not here to look good or impress. The rooms are girls in a room, boys in a room, and two in each. The coaches assign the rooms. The housemates are really uncomfortable not sleeping in the same room as their spouses.
The four ladies met with Rhonda. Jaclyn met Michael in a yoga class. She was married before. Iyanla met with the men, and they are talking too. We see shots of both groups, talking about their relationships. Simon used to write Kacie love letters.
Cheryl says she has never given Troy her heart. Iyanla told Troy to trust the process, and he will be healed. Iyanla said Troy is a proud, strong man, a soldier from Desert Storm. Troy said Cheryl took their son, and left the home, to be with another man.
Cheryl said she pulled away from Troy, after the birth of their son. Iyanla left the group, so they could feel comfortable to release their emotions. Cheryl and Troy tell the coaches they love each other. Michael said this past year has been hard, and he cheated on Jaclyn. Jaclyn told the girls she caught him cheating on him. He wants the trust back.
Kacie has a daughter, and is dealing with her hurt and anger. Simon said about 2 ½ years ago, their relationship broke down.
Jennifer said she doesn’t know if she is the best parent, but she doesn’t trust Lou to do it. He said he is 37, and was in a cloud of pot smoke for a long time. The men rate their relationships, from 1-10, 1 being worst. The ladies do the same thing.
They all make their own sandwich, and are talking about how to run the shopping and the house. Cheryl is being mean to Troy in front of the group.
The five rules of engagement for a healthy relationship are respect, communication, cooperation, intimacy, and trust. They are weighing physically how they respect each other. They are showing what they put on each others back, what they carry, with sandbags in backpacks. Lou wants to break Jennifer’s computer, he says she spends time cleaning and on the computer, and not with him. She says she feels overwhelmed with the responsibilities. He says she doesn’t relinquish control over any of it.
Cheryl can tell when Troy is not present. He is willing to respond, and talk to her. He wants to meet her halfway with things, having an equal say and role in raising their child. Cheryl said I am sorry, and Iyanla said no, say forgive me. Iyanla told her to ask Troy for forgiveness, for belittling him, and not sharing in control of the family.
Next on SO, Cheryl admits to what hurt her marriage, Kacie shares, and Simon faces some challenges. There you have it, ladies, the first show of the season. This will be the last time I type the recaps, so step up to fill in, ladies!! They don’t have to be done the same day, just when you get a chance, especially if you tape the show and watch it at a later date. Each show can have its own thread, so it doesn’t matter if a Tuesday show is typed before a Monday show. Enjoy the season!
