Hi everyone!

Has anyone got a suggestion for our next book? I have enjoyed reading with all of you. And, let me just tell you, I felt that our discussions here were better than the ones in the book group I go to once a month.

These are my suggestions for the next book -

An Elegant Gathering of White Snows, by Kris Radish

Close Range - Wyoming Stories by Annie Proulx

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak


Elegant is about a group of women who are supportive of each other and who one day just start walking, and they keep walking - as they walk the background of each is revealed. They attract the news and people start to wonder what where why the are walking.

Close Range - is a group of short stories about Wyoming and the people who live there. The movie Brokeback Mountain is based on one of the stories in this book.

The Book Thief is a book that I heard about on Good Morning America. It is about alittle girl who lives in Nazi Germany and her relationship with books, other people, etc. (Let me just say right up front that the narrator of the book is Death.) According to Charlie Gibson on GMA this book was fantastic.


Please!!!! Other suggestions would be great. I always love to hear what other people find in the way of books, because sometimes it enables me to find out about an author or book that I would not have come across before.

Also, consider Lovely Bones - I truly believe this book is going to be made into a movie and I am very curious to see who portrays the different characters. The book was about a very sad/serious subject but it was written so well that you are able to get through it easily.
(If anyone has read this book and would like to get a little more insight into the background of this author you can read Lucky, also by the same writer. It is a memoir of hers and sheds a great deal of light on her thoughts for Lovely Bones.)

Never got the Sister's Keeper book..............my life went suddenly crazy the last couple of weeks!!! But I should be able to pick up with the 3rd book and read the other when I squeeze it in!!!! I also enjoy our discussions tons!!!!

Elegant gathering sounds good. I also just got S is for Silence that I had put on hold some time ago.

Hi, I am new and thought I'd interject some suggestions...."Emma and Me", "Ellen Foster" and the sequel, "The LIfe All Around Me", The Red Tent, Sight Hound....Widow of the South, The Mermaid Chair or Sue Monk Kidd's first one...about bees...really, really good, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close By", Saving Fish from Drowning, In the Time of Butterflies..to name a few. If you are interested I'd be happy to share feedback about them. After reading comments about wicked I really want to read it. I love this forum and am glad I joined. Thank you, Gail

Sorry...................it's just been sooooo busy!!!! May will also be busy, but I'm going to make some more time for reading as it's my way of recharging myself!!!!

My friends and I are interested in reading The Poisonwood Bible. What do you think? Have you already read it? I think we're going to try to read it in May.

I absolutely loved the "Red Tent", was very enlightening. I don't go for many 'fluff' books, but instead, really enjoy ones, like this one, that can hold my interest and teach me. This did give rise to many questions, IIRC.

Off to look for 'Wicked' book, or am I too late? Have ya'll moved on to a new one, yet?

I read this one a couple of years ago, I believe, and loved it. He was right on the money with this suggestion.

It's so funny, I usually only post in the SOH threads, but was tired of TV, and the puter the other day, so I decided to start in on my 'books'.
I am a voracious reader, love really well thought out books.

I go shopping at Sam's or anywhere else, and usually will buy many books at a time, which wind up on the shelf for however long it takes for me to get back into my 'reading trance phase'.

Now, I'm reading Tom Wolfe's "I Am Charlotte Simmons", and have just opened it, so please don't say anything about the plot....yet.

This will be one of my 5-6 times a year when I delve into all the books I've picked up, and then start to read....ALL of them! Usually lasts about 1-2 months. lol
There goes the laundry and dishes......cleaning house, etc.
Hub is the same way, but at different times, and different types of books. (He also reads his stuff online, I enjoy sitting outside on the chaise lounge, with iced tea, Rudy, my golden retriever, Hannah Bean, my indoor/outdoor kitty and a good book!)
Anyway, as grizz can avow, I tend to babble on and on....

I just wanted to say this place took me by surprise the other day, as I hadn't noticed the'book club' until then.

Perfect timing, ya'll can give me some other great ideas, if
you know of any other books. It's great to see others here with the same taste as mine, the best way to find new territory!
