Good to 'see' you kgurl...

I think we all are very saddened by this likeable guy's death. I know he has young children... I hope the industry that brings this type of programming takes some lessons away about being extra cautious when dealing with wild animals.. and wild sea creatures. They aren't always predicatable..

I think part of Steve's popularity was that he always pushed the envelope! (took risks/chances)

I know Australia seems to be in a state of mourning. On news radio today they were even talking about a state funeral for him if the family would allow it.

My daughter is especially sad since she had just come back from studying a semester in Australia..

Hello guys, I was also shocked by this tragic death. I loved watching Steve. I agree Grizz with you that life is short, and I have been really focusing on life. I have been also dreaming bits and pieces of my childhood that I never thought about until my "awareness". Life is short............. Back to the main topic . I hope his family will have the comfort and support that they will need at this time.

YOU are a sight for sore eyes K-gurl!!!!!!!!! Glad to hear from ya!!! *****hugs*****

I really didn't see Steve as pushing it. He REALLY knew his animals and his own ability. One of his buddies who was filming this new show said that if Steve ever were to get killed they felt it would be in the ocean because of having a limited reaction time and ability in the water. I've definitely seen many people take unnecessary risks, but it always seemed to me that Steve really did know his stuff and he wasn't just trying to perform or be in the limelight. They really love their work and do want to bring a message to everyone.

I think they've succeeded wonderfully and will continue on. But, from whatever point of view......it is a tragic accident. I'm hugging my kids and hubby extra before bed tonite!

Grizz...

I know he had his fair share of close calls and I've even seen clips of him having 'accidents'. They replayed one bit when he got his hand caught in a creatures mouth... and wound up a bloody mess... I know it comes with the territory and the line of work..

I really wasn't a major fan of the show..Always just caught bits and pieces of his show. I think he was great on talk shows because of his animated personality..

I remember a couple years ago he had gotten alot of flack for doing his 'schtick...' (teasing the crocks..) while holding his very young child.. Baby couldn't have been older than 6 months or so..
Probably more a lapse in judgement than anything else..

That incident stands out in my mind quite a bit.

Since I don't have younger kids that would enjoy the snakes, crocs, and critters... I just tend to gravitate toward other type programming.

As someone else suggested, he probably died doing the thing he loved the most!

Yeah, I think that will be some comfort to his family. Oddly enough, that friend that was interviewed who was with him said he actually was peaceful at his passing.

I think this one really just got me since my kids have grown up watching him. And he's so young and has such a young family.

Sting rays have some venom but it's not life threatening... just makes you ill from what I understand. There have been just a few people that have died from a run in with a stingray. The Stingray's barb happened to pierce his heart. It was a freak accident while filming a documentary for his daughter.

What I loved about this man is he didn't talk about saving the creatures... he put his money back into saving them. He could have gotten rich and sat back in a masion and only became passionate when the funds were rolling in. He loved these creatures long before the first camera, long after the cameras were off for the night. He shared his passion and idea with those around them. He put his energy for YEARS trying to get people to stop seeing animals as pests. Yes I cringed everytime he got around a croc or snake.

How many of us sit back wishing to be as passionate as he was... he was not afraid to make himself into a fool for the things he loved to do most and sharing it with not just his friends but anyone was willing to listen.
