I agree Kpw, that it was Star's way of getting her revenge and thinking she was gonna come out the other side looking like the wronged one... but in the end, she didn't leave with dignity and she did dig herself one heck of a hole when she burned that bridge... I don't think I'd be burning a bridge with Barbara Walters... and I don't see other tv shows jumping all over themselves to get Star now.... and she is supposed to do a larry king interview tomorrow night I think.... I see that hole getting deeper and her popularity going down even more after that interview...

I didn't realize that the decision to let Star go was made before the decision was made to bring Rosie aboard. I thought the reported conflict between Rosie and Star was because Rosie questioned Star's decision to hide her bypass surgery. It looks like The View was actually just not keen on keeping Star around. I can see why.
I think Star has just grown too temperamental. She used to be my favorite on the show, but she changed after her surgery or it could be that marriage changed her. Now days she seems to look down her nose at some of the guests or stare down at the floor if she is disagreeing with them. It turns me off. Star used to be very vocal about her opinions and would be very blunt in telling them, but, it doesn't come across the same way.
I also respect Barbara and I have not heard all the details, but, what's the difference in announcing your departure on Tuesday as opposed to Thursday? Why was that so important?
You know what they say, "There is no such thing as bad publicity." Besides, Star can always go back into law.
Wonder if Iyanla could fill Star's shoes. I think Iyanla may be over qualified.

i believe from a production standpoint, it makes more sense to announce on a thursday so that friday can be your last day and bring closure to the week... if you announce early in the week, that big of news overshadows all your other topics for the week... it ends up drawing more attention to Star as every guest who comes on will spend X amount of time during their segment to give their well wishes or discuss Star's situation... Also, from what I can tell from all the press on this situation, there may have been issues with the tact that Star approached her leaving... Kinda like that whole, don't burn your bridges... Like quitting because you hate your boss, but in your exit interview, you cite personal advancement because you never know if that boss becomes your one of your next interviews elsewhere down the line or if you ever want to come back to the company under a new boss... Hope that makes sense... I haven't had breakfast yet, so I may not be completely awake...
sorry for the long post... my fingers just won't stop typing... hahah...

I can certainly understand that not burning bridges is the smart thing to do when leaving a job, however, I am on Star's side in this matter. It seems as if Barbara Walters expected Star to play along with the facade that Star was just leaving to pursue other career options and not let the viewers know that her contract was not renewed. Why does Star owe the show that lie?
I thought the departure speech Star gave on Tuedsay was fair and respectful. She didn't put down the show and she didn't even indicate that it was not her choice to leave. For Barbara to overreact and tell her not to bother coming back to finish out her contract, IMO is a control issue. It's like, you didn't jump when I said jump so I'm done with you. Too much DRAMA.
Everyone sat at the table since April knowing that Star was not coming back, and dealt with it, but, after Star announces she is leaving, they can't suck it up and sit there for 2 more weeks! Please..... that's not reasonable.
A representive for TV Guide has said twice since yesterday that Barbara admitts that she has been lying to the viewers for months about this matter. I guess she was hoping Star would be a good little girl and go away quietly, allowing the view to look good and hide the fact they kicked Star to the curb.
Anyway, this just hit me the wrong way, and polls indicate that Star is actually coming out on the top in this thing. Good.
If you'll notice from my post yesterday, I am not a Star fan anymore. I think it was time for her to get back to her old demeanor or hit the road, BUT, The View got it wrong on their tactics. I don't think the only way to exit a job with dignity is to kiss butt.
I hope Star does well tonight on Larry King and doesn't make me look stupid with this post in her support.

I didn't hear what Star said on Tuesday... but I do understand that news like that can throw off the rest of the planned interviews and guests and whatnot. Plus distract the audience into a different direction. Apparently this had been in the works for some time. I know Star has alot of other issues going on in her personal life (according to rumors) and I know that 'divaship' is one of the problems they've had with her. Not sure to what degree.. and if this is a control issue... on either Star or Barbara's part.. It could be one of those grey areas... Barbara and the show should have some say on the issue. But I am glad that Star didn't totally make an idiot of herself on Tuesday's show. Too bad I didnt see it all. I saw the first couple minutes and then the interview with the sperm donor doctor... but I missed Star's announcement. I kept thinking about Joy's ugly belt! ha,ha
Anyway, I might try to catch Larry King tonight.. Should be interesting to hear Star's version of the situation and why if it was already planned to do something later in the week did she do what she did in spite of the standing plan.
I do think MichaelAnthony made some valid points as well from a production standpoint.
Hindsight is always 20/20... and I'm sure both woman wished they'd handled things differently. I really thought they had a respectful professional relationship. Should be an interesting interview... I hope Star is able to regroup and respond graciously and with dignity rather than speak from an angry and hurt heart.
I wonder what new tidbits are floating out there from the Tuesday blowup. I was shocked at how quickly the entire The View website was updated to reflect the change. I noticed today that they had a guest cohost on.. Probably trying her out as a replacement.
Is there 2 more weeks to the season? Or was this going to be Star's last week anyway.. ? I can't imagine any of this boding well for the show with Rosie coming on board this fall. Unless all the other woman (Joy and Elisabeth) shared Barbara's feelings about how it happened. It would be hard not have feelings on the matter with people on both sides of you who you've worked with so closedly for so long. Either they are going to sympathize with one or the other... It would be hard to be neutral.. and can affect the morale of the rest of the cast.

If my memory serves me correctly, onm Tuesday Star said she was going to be there until mid July. She said that the show was moving in a different direction and that she would be leaving. After her speech, I had no idea the show had not picked her up again. She didn't seem ticked off or angry. She said that she had made the decision after much prayer and counsel. So I guess she okayed with God and her attorney. She was gracious to Barbara and the other hosts. Everything seemed fine.
I suspect that the show was planning to have Barbara make the announcement and present the leave the way she wanted it to appear. I'm not sure how she could have done a better and more gracious announcement than Star did on Tuesday.
Barbara has been on everyday filling in for Meredith and she's been doing a great job. She's going to be exhausted by the time Rosie arrives on board. She's only used to coming on the show a couple of times per week.
I think they will now have to get Rosie's approval for Rosie's replacement. I heard that Rosie's lowest ratings were higher than The Views ratings have ever been.
