Child dies in hot car
06:08 PM Mountain Standard Time on Tuesday, July 12, 2005
By Claudia Rivero / 3TV reporter
Claudio Rivero reports
A 22-month-old girl died after being left in a hot car at a Phoenix apartment complex for about 5 hours Tuesday morning.
“This child basically did not have a chance to survive,” said Detective Tony Morales with the Phoenix Police Department.
Apparently, the child’s aunt dropped off the child’s mother at work at about 7 a.m. The aunt, Blanca Nunez, then went back home and went to sleep. She didn't wake up or realize the child was in the car until about noon.
She made a frantic call to 911, but it was too late.
Bob Khan with the Phoenix Fire Department said that even after attempts to cool the child, her temperature was about 107 degrees.
The baby taken to Maricopa County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
“Basically the body isn't designed to take that kind of heat,” Khan said.
Morales said that children die in hot cars every year.
“I don't know how to explain it,” he said. “But you have to be conscious of your child at all times.”
Nunez is facing one count of negligent homicide.
The temperature reportedly reached 115 degrees Tuesday.
This happened at my complex today what we were told here was that it was up to 9 hours that teh child had been left.
Let this be a reminder to everyone to double check their cars when getting out.

wow Heather , I can't even imagine how you must feel with this happening in your own apartment complex and having small children yourself.
I just don't understand how someone can forget they have a child with them. It is just more than I can wrap my brain around.
I pray for the mother who has lost her little angle because of a very carless act by someone she entrusted her too.
ok need to write more later still over whelmed by the news.

Oh Heather. How horrible to have that happen right where you are! I don't know how anyone can forget a child. I just cannot imagine being the mother and getting a phone call that your Aunt left your child in the car and thinking of the misery your child went through. This is just so awful. Such a tragedy.

Our Own momof2gg24:
I don't know the words to say,
some may think that funny.
I do know I will need to pray,
for that innocent Little Honey.
I wonder why Auntie forgot that day,
With temps of 115! All Hot & Sunny?
Let this always be a Reminder,
For Mommies & Aunties to please look behind her!!!!
GOD BLESS THE CHILD.....
and GOD BLESS YOU HEATHER & YOUR TWO GIRLS......
Loving thoughts
Roxanne
