Prayers for Your Nephew's complete recovery, Grizzlys4!!

There has been a lot of talk about drunk drivers in OK....the state legislation is debating toughening the math test to be licensed to drive......maybe, being a High School Graduate will be next. A "Learners Permit" untill graduation would be an appropriate incentive. It is an earned privalege after all.

Thanks guys!!!!! Yep, I have a big, ole soapbox about drunk driving!!!!!!! And some great ideas to combat that problem, but until we understand that somebody's "right" to drive and/or drink is NOT more important than someone else's "right" to life and health...........sheeesh!!! We are so lucky in that my nephew's alive and is young and healthy enough to recover!! I know many have tremendous losses.

So, my 15 y.o. daughter just got her permit....and I LOVE the newer laws and stricter policies on teen drivers that Colorado has passed that weren't around when I learned to drive!!!! And she's doing wonderfully!!!!

But I maintain that I'm STILL not old enough to have a child who's driving!!!!!!!

Oh Grizz - I just read this thread for the first time -

I am so sorry to hear about what has happened to your nephew (and family).

Thankfully, he is on the road to recovery, with a loving and supportive family network behind him.

Drinking and driving is just something I have never understood. It is an epidemic that our laws do not seem to be able to contain. Groups like MADD are great about getting out the word about this problem.

In our house, we made sure our son saw that IF one of us had ONE drink we did not drive. I know that is extreme but, sometimes that is the only way to go. (Keep it simple - Drinking = No driving) I know now, that having a young one starting the driving is always so difficult. When mine went off in the car the first time, I think I lay down on the sofa and prayed until he called me from school to say he got there!

Again, I am so happy that your nephew is doing so well. He is in the thoughts and prayers of many people. And, he will continue to do better and better with the love and support of you and your family.
