I think that a lot of my problem is just that. It was taken from 3rd hand accounts. It was interesting today because we talk about Jesus and others. I found out that the romans never wrote about him. The main Gospels were taken from letters and other things passed down years later.
Punished comes from when you read different verisons used born in sin others say puinshed. If we are all born bad then what is the point? I am very much a new ager in religion. I question everything. I have learned that mainly what i was taught doesn't always go along with what history says. Being Christian for a long time was that you were jewish and believed that Jesus had come verus being jewish and he hadn't. I never realize dtaht so much of christianity was based on Judaism.

IMO and from my own experiences I think what you are discussing is FAITH.

I've had the same issues trying to "reason" with the Bible or written religious publications/writings. To me, if I have FAITH in GOD & Know it to be TRUTH, I'm OK with it. My FAITH & BELIEF in GOD tells me that.

The part of questioning is GROWTH, furthering your own Spiritual Knowledge, and at the same time coming closer to GOD. IMO.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. God wrote the Bible, it is His inspired words. How else could all the writers, over all the years, connect the past with the present, and future predictions?

Yes, God punishes. He disaplines those he loves. Like an earthly father, He loves us, and wants the best for us. If he sees us doing wrong, we are corrected, or disaplined. Sometimes we are left alone, to make a mistake, and to learn from our mistakes, instead of being stopped from making them. The Bible tells the story of many men( we are studying David), godly men, who were punished for falling away from God. They didn't lose their salvation, just their fellowship with God. Many repented, and were restored to greatness again. Some fell, like Samson.

What I was referring too was the belief that children are born with birth defects,
or illness because of sin, or punishment .
