Have you ever been in a place so dark that you literally could not see your hand in front of your face? A person walks with hands extended, attempting to feel for any objects to avoid a collision. Our feet walk gingerly to avoid tripping or falling down.
Because of our sin the course of life can be like a dark path. Without a proper light to illuminate the way, we risk running into obstacles or falling into holes that seem like abyssess from which we cannot escape. The darkness of sin can becme overwhelming.
Our Heavenly Father has provided a light for us in His Holy Word, which guides us in our walk of faith. John writes, "But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin." God's Word never lacks power and is always ready to guide us, no matter how dark or unknown the path that we walk. It is truly a lamp to our feet and a light for our path (Ps. 119:105).
