Moving from home city 4 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 15
Hi everyone
Well after living here my entire life my husband and I are taking the big step and moving to anouther part of our province.
We are moving to our dream retirement home a hobby farm.
When we leave in a few weeks we will be leaving behind my daughter and her husband along with our 18 month old grandson.
Our 6 year old grandson by my son.
And our oldest daughter just left yesterday to drive across country to the west coast, to start a new life with her husband in Vancouver.

How do you cope with all these changes and not become a cry baby??
I am happy but my inner feelings are that I really do not want to leave the kids and grandsons behind!
My husband thinks I am over reacting to the move and should just have happy thoughts of the new home and all the things we have waited for for 30 years married.

Am I being stupid to feel this way?
Can anyone give me tips on how to cope with this move before I drive my hubby nuts.
Thanks

How about giving your children and grandchildren calling cards so they can call. I know this must be hard on you. Just keepin mind that you can all way go and visit them. Good Luck on your move.

Dear Hugs, You really are starting over!
Of course, you are not stupid and it's OK to cry a bit
as you morn (for a time that is passing) and actually
move on-to a new, well planned existence.
When you and spouse were dreaming of retirement
what thoughts did you have about family moving on
or your relocation?
As for coping... do what makes you laugh.
If it seems like hubby is going nuts...give him a stuffed
animal-squirrel.
If you will forgive my ignorance...what is a hobby farm?
I hope that all of the best of goodness comes your way.

Just to add, and Hugs will give you specifics to her, a hobby farm is something you don't make a full-time job out of. Maybe a few horses, cows, chickens, bunnies, ducks, pigs, crops. It is not a 1,000 hog operation or a dairy farm milking 400 cows three times a day. Hope that gives you some idea.

Hi Everyone
Thank you all for your kind words and advise. Life here is so hectic I do not know if I am coming in one door or just going out the other..
Visitors and baby come by, and trying to pack up a home filled with memories and items so dear to my heart.

My children do have call home cards and have had them since they went away to university years ago. Still not the same as a quick hello on their way home from work or on a sunny afternoon while driving around.

My oldest moved a 4-day drive across country last month. Her and her husband are the adventurers in the family.

The land we bought is in a rural area, we are only an hour & half from our country’s capital Ottawa. Still it is quiet and sosoooo beautiful there. It is call Gods Valley by many who live there and or come every year to visit the wonderful lakes and countryside.

The term hobby farm is when you are not full time farmers and may only have as we will some pleasure horses and that is all. The home is listed as a hobby farm so if you ever do want to have multiple animals it is zoned already for farming.

For us the 5 aches is more then enough area for our riding and maintaining the horses during the summer and winter months with hay and grazing land.

I am doing better at the crying ! Not everyday anymore, but I know it will be hard the day I have to say bye to my daughter and her little boy.
I am excited and truly looking forward to having the dream home we have waited for.

Again thank you for your advice and pages to look at for more information on moving and emotions.
Have a great day
Hugs
