Knee Surgery 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Well...........I had my arthroscopic knee surgery on my right knee last night!!!

Pain's bearable, but I am needing some pain meds tonight. Overall, it went well and I'm not near as scared now to get the left knee done in the fall!!!

Now..........hopefully the doc says this will buy me years!!!! And I won't need knee replacements until I'm in my 50's!!!!

Congrats Grizz! Hope the mending goes well and you'll feel better than ever! Take it easy and let it heal well. I know with summer time here and having kids that there might be a tendency to overdo it!

Glad you got a reprieve from the knee replacements. I think I told you my sister had both hers done last year. She's doing well with them.. She's very glad she did it!

Grizz, glad you're doing well. With the little surgeries I have had, I found it best to keep the pain medication in my system by taking every 4 hours, or whatever is prescribed rather than waiting for the pain to come on. If I waited it seemed to not work as well.
I do hate taking it though. After a day or two it made me feel hyper and itchy, not sleepy like most people say.

What did they do inside the knee if you don't mind saying. Did they put something in there or take something out?

A lot of people are having knee surgeries lately. I guess the advances in medicine are allowing more and more options than ever before.

Hey Deb..............

I had a torn meniscus that they "cleaned up" and removed the damaged tissues. I am feeling more pain today..........hobbling to the bathroom is NO fun......even though it's only a few feet from the bed!!!!

I AM thankful for the medical advanced, though............this definitely will be a better healing in terms of time and recovery than it used to be!!!

Grizz, I hope the pain subsides. Try to take it easy. I know with some surgeries they want you up and around to prevent sorness. Will you need physcial therapy?

Is there someone who can help with things around the house as well as taking care of your needs? I hope so.

Keep us updated so we know how you're doing.

Put them teens to work I say! LOL! Builds character!

Definitely take it easy!

Are you bearing weight on it already? or do you have to be off of it for an extended time. Definitely take it easy so that you don't have any set backs!

I don't know if arthroscopic surgery is the same as laparoscopic.. Probably similar. I think these advances help minimize the invasiveness of the procedures.. I benefitted from laparoscopic gall bladder surgery several years ago.. Aside from the bloating feeling for a couple of days and all that 'air' having to work it's way out... my recovery was dramatic.. Had my surgery on a Tuesday, was out Wednesday and at high school orientation (albeit a little slowly) for my daughter on Thursday.

I think they can even do gastric bypass laparoscopically now!
