Tara, could you or anyone recommend a good book that addresses the issue of Adult ADD and the option of medication. I know someone who is looking into that but does not want to take medication unless it is necessary. Are there other options?

I have Adult ADD without medication.

I found Dr Hallowell's books Driven to Distractions and Deliverd from Distractions. I also use a book ADD-Friendly ways to Organize Your Life by Judith Kolberg & Kathleen Nadeau, PH.D

There are ADD coaches out there that might be helpful as well. If they can't afford a coach then a family member or friend that is willing to learn about ADD and commited to help might be helpful as well. It's hard to learn how to work with ADD alone. Also meditation, Yoga, and such might be helpful as well. There's no single way to control ADD so learning as much about ADD itself and finding out what works best for the person is an important part (IMO) on handling ADD.

Good Luck to them.

THanks TigerRose. I really appreciate the info. I'm sure my friend will benefit from it. She's not sure she has ADD, but, wants to help herself if she does.

It's good to know there are alternatives to medication.

Delivered from Distraction is great and discusses different treatment options. I reccomend that one over Driven to Distraction just because the treatment options discussed are more current.

One treatment that's reccomended by experts like Dr Hallowell and Dr Amen is Omega-3 Fish oil.

Post edited by: Tara, at: 2006/11/09 18:33
