FCC Regulations 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: 1
I'm wondering if any of you know anything about this issue. This morning I was watching The Today Show and the hosts were sampling tequila. About a minute later I turned to Good Morning America and they were preparing to make a champagne toast for the New Year, but the host said "The FCC regulations don't allow us to drink real alcohol on the air, so we are drinking sparkling apple cider." Which is correct? I aways thought it was a violation too. But I have seen David Letterman turn up what looks like liquor and down it before. I think that was a joke....not sure.

It's not that I have a problem with it, I just want to know why we get completely different information back to back from 2 different networks.

I went to the FCC webpage but couldn't find anything on it.

That is interesting. I've always heard actors in interviews talking about colored water since they couldn't drink alcohol on the air. But then I've also seen some shows on Food Network where they are sampling.............so I don't know!!

Maybe they are allowed to "sample" but not "drink".

I've seen Martha Stewart drinking a glass of wine on her show... sometimes it is part of the segment i.e. wine tasting, or cocktail... also part of a segment.

Martha likes her wine... I always hear the hmmmmm. LOL.

Now that I think about it... Julia Child and the French chef she worked with would serve wine with the meal they cooked together and I've seen them sip on air.

Wonder if it's okay if it's a food show.

Cheers,

Mazzy
