Starting Over Talk

I wasn't crazy about Ugly Betty this week... the progtam was just too silly.

I was hoping the show would focus on women's issues... body image... it's good to be thin and HEALTHY, focusing on the healthy aspect of body image. The best part of the whole show was getting the message in that it was okay not to retouch photos to remake a models body... but the message may have been lost because of all the sillyness.

Maybe sometimes getting a point across needs to be done in a light hearted way...

I forgot to tune in until half way into the show.... Although they may exaggerate some of the personalities on the show...there is an element of truth to them... The catty neighbor, shallow coworker, the conniving exec.... and yet compassion emerges in other characters.. It sure might make some people take stock in which one they might come across more as...

I consider the show a way to promote a message in a non threatening way... If it were heavy drama, it probably would be out in a heartbeat.

I think there could have been a _meta_phor for the bunny... Who is mocked, ridiculed and torn up... It took someone with compassion to patch it up and who saw the value and beauty in it...when noone else could. Even if it only had sentimental value to Betty... it still had value and should have been respected. I'm sure if there weren't a few compassionate characters in the show...Betty would have been sent over the edge a while ago! I'm sure they represent hope that there still are good people out there..

I think the show is meant to be a little silly... In a drama and reality heavy pool of shows available... It's nice having something a bit more light.. Some of the best classics we have had.... were rife with silliness... Not sure if this will ever meet classic status... But I think it is a refreshing change! I'll enjoy it while it lasts... seems like some of the new shows are already beginning to bite the dust.

I see your point. Guess I was crabbier than usual, and was too impatient to see much past the sillyness. LOL

I totally agree KPW!!!!!!!!!

Especially as a mom of a teen girl with weight issues (well, she's just like me.....short and plump.......but cute!!! ). That type of humor really can convey the messages without sounding like lectures or just lip-service!!

My friend and I totally loved the show. I had to screen it first before I let my kids watch it......but this one passed my "momdar"!!!! And we did laugh a lot too!!!!
