I'm hearing great reviews on this one...
May be a twist on the Devil wears Prada... but is really based on a latina series..
It just sounds really like it will be a good storyline.. Someone who becomes appreciated because of their skills and not their looks...

This one debuts on Thursday on ABC.
Wow..it seems like ABC is going to dominate with this one, Men in Trees and Brothers and Sisters.

Did anyone watch this last night?
I really enjoyed it... But wonder how long they can go with the storyline... She can't wear braces forever..

I saw part of the show. It seems as if I keep getting distracted during good tv and not catching everything. Someone is calling or dropping by or I have chores I try to fit in during commercials. You know what I mean? What I did see looked good.
I have seen the lead actress and Selma Hyatt(sp) on Oprah and The View. They are both so authenic. I hope the show does well. I will try to catch it next week.
I have just a few shows that are must see tv for me. When they are on I don't do anything. Nip Tuck and Grey's Anatomy. Oh, and Big Love when it is in season. I'm not sure when it will come back, you know how those HBO shows are. They disappear for what seems like a year.

I enjoyed the Devil wears Prada... and I enjoyed Ugly Betty. The beauty of Betty comes out... because you see the beauty within... you cannot help see the beauty... period. In this day and age... with all the products and help available... the outside of a person can be pretty much cleaned up. It's what's on the inside that really counts... have you ever met a really beautiful person who is beautiful on the outside, but has nothing going on inside, and they know it, and are insecure, and not confident?
The actress who plays ugly Betty was in the movie... Real Women Have Curves. I enjoyed her in that movie too.
I'm liking the new trend slash messages regarding body image, and how we present ourselves to the world... from the new Dove commercials to movies and TV shows... the message seems to be... there is beauty in all... not just one type... size, etc. Makes sense to me... LOL... it's about time the rest of the world is waking up.
I must be getting older... I'm sounding like my grandma. LOL

Post edited by: mazzy, at: 2006/09/30 09:40

Great post Mazzy...
I saw the View this week when the star and producer were on. They mentioned that Americas was also in the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants. The movie was supposed to be really good but I never got around to seeing it.
I found this link about the show.. It also mentions strangely enough that the father character is addicted to soaps (I think the article calls them television novelos... or something like that..) The clips they show..star Salma Hayek the producer. She apparently got her start in tv doing similar tv.
I hope Ugly Betty is a start of a whole new trend in the media..

I liked Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. My concern with that movie is that it is a little too juvenile for adults, but too adult like for teens, IMO. I won't give away one of the storylines, but, it involves teen sex. But don't get me wrong, it is very wholesome in a way. It's hard to describe, but, if you have seen it, you'll know what I mean.
I saw part of Ugly Betty and liked it. I like the message.
There is sooo much lip service being paid to the female size issue. What is being said is not really helpful. THe thin stars say things like, "Yes, it's so horrible that all of Hollywood is caught up in this thin issue," Celebs have to be thin and even every American women has this pressure to be thin now." I guess it's good they are acknowledging the probem but it also sounds like that is all they are doing. I guess they feel helpless.
I hear so much by the media on the the pressure to be thin that it makes me wonder why aren't more people I know thin. Are they thin because they get paid to be. It seems that many out of work celebs gain weight when they are not working, such as Janet Jackson, ( I don't buy her story about preparing for a movie), Kirstie Alley, Elizabeth Taylor, etc. But they whip into shape when the job offers pop up.
