Thanks for the update Kisergirl.

Donny Osmond has told of a time in his career, mid-eighties, when he was desperate for work. He said he couldn't even get arrested. LOL. He wanted to dump the squeaky clean image he had from childhood to try to get a record deal. He says he talked to Michael Jackson about it. Michael had not had that problem migrating into an adult star. Michael advised Donny to purposefully get arrested for drugs. I'm serious. He was going to not really do the drugs but plant them on himself and then voluntarily get arrested. They thought the pubilicity would HELP his career. Donny says he was so desperate that he did consider it, but his brothers talked him out of it.

He did just fine right after that when he went to England and got a record deal for "Soldier of Love", which did well in the US because they played it on the radio for weeks without telling the name of the artist until it went to the top of the charts.

Yw Debby!!

Those young kids on Dr. Phil today were very good, but I sort of felt a little sad about the dialog that a few of them used. I know they were acting, but their subject matter seemed a little blue. I felt it came across as they were speaking of how they felt. I know the boys even wrote a song about their mother being a witch(dr. Phil's staff made them change the B to a W),and their father helped them write it.

I agree KiserGirl. I thought the exact thing about the performances those kids gave. Even the one that won who had the dramatic acting that was so tragic. You could tell she meant it when she said she was a miserable kid. It's as if those kids are screaming to their mothers that they don't want to do that anymore but the mothers just refuse to listen. It was quite sad. I guess Dr. Phil is so smart, but he missed this one IMO.

I know Dr. Phil wanted to give the kids inspiration and not let that be a negative experience, but I think it was very misleading. I don't think any of those kids is really ready for professional work. I guess the girl who won is possibly. It appeared her mom was depending on her financially for support.

If they had ever watched the try outs in NY by kids for roles on Broadway, they would know that there are thousands of children who are OUTSTANDING in singing, dancing and acting. My question is why were some of those really good kid performers not on Dr. Phil? Maybe those kids have reasonable mothers supporting them, I don't know, but, I didn't like the thing about the kids. I think those handpicked judges were not honest about what they thought of those kids. I hope they gave the mothers more constructive criticsm in private.

In the earlier show, one of the professionals told one little girl's mother that her daugher needed to work on her lisp. Her lisp was quite obvious and even distracting to me. It was because her upper teeth were protruding. It appeared that braces would have corrected that. How could her mother be blind to that problem? Something that major should be addressed beforet you parade you child around inviting scruitny. Cimdy Brady might have been cute, but this girl is too old for that kind of handicap to be an asset.

I recently have noticed that Dr. Phil's format has changed,so I read and article in the Star mag rag (which we all who read these know that they are sometimes not accurate) stating that Dr. Phil wants to sever or loosen the ties that he has with Oprah. That article says that his ratings had fallen, and Oprah had more control over what is being aired. I remember years ago when her tv show first came on it had alot of drama to it. Oprah has since changed the format to a more of a life learning and spiritual healing process. I feel that the article more or less is stating that Dr. Phil wants more control of what he wants aired, and Oprah isn't happy about how his show is airing now! The article states that she isn't happy about Dr. Phil's family being involved in his show, for instance Robin giving people advice, and not being trained or have a degree to do so. Sometimes when you give someone power they want more power.

If Dr. Phil must choose between Robin and Oprah, he will select Oprah. I think he is scared of Robin, or at least he acts like it.
When she snaps, he jumps.

I don't know where the wild drama is coming from. Does Dr. Phil believe it portrays him in a positive light. Everytime I see the previews of the Dr. Phil house I cringe. It is sooooo cheesy. He actually works people up to get the most crazy behavior IMO.

Oprah is one of my heros, however it wasn't too long ago that I thought she used poor judgment in airing an interview with that little boy who was kidnapped then discovered alive years later. The boy hadn't even gone to therapy yet and the interview was just days after his rescue. I still repect her, but I think she dropped the ball on that one.

I really enjoyed Dr. Phil when he was more authentic and less full of sensationalism. The more squirelly the better for that show.
